Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 342

Clam

Whatever was outside was going to have to do some work to get to me, leaving me time to find a form of protection, or at least that was what I had thought. As I crawled gingerly around, looking for my makeshift stake, the surrounding foliage continued to giveaway, falling in faster than I would have expected it to.

The ground was quickly becoming covered in broken foliage, making me realize that it wasn’t going to hold much longer, as whatever was on the outside wanted in badly. Desperation once again consumed me as my hands felt around frantically for the stake, knowing that at any moment I would be coming face to face with the beast trying to get in.

A series of low growls began to echo their way inside, making me pause for a brief moment to look towards the opening, as my heart began to race in my chest. Honestly, I don’t know how I knew who these growls belonged to, but somehow, I did, and I also could sense the frustration in them, telling me that once he got inside, I was as good as dead.

But he wasn’t the only one that was beyond frustrated with what was happening, as I wanted nothing more than for all of this to be over with. It was apparent that this wasn’t going to end until one of us was dead, and looking at Cash’s beaten body, I knew that I must pull my shit together, as it was clear that I was now our only hope of getting out of here alive.

With the growls drawing closer, I turned my attention back to the ground, feeling around for the stake, as the foliage continued to fall all around me. Swallowing down my tears of fear, I peeked over at Cash, trying to draw strength from him, knowing that I wasn’t only about to fight for my own life, but his life too, as I was sure that this rogue Alpha cousin of mine wouldn’t allow him to live even if I died.

From what I had seen, Cash had clearly done a number on him, and I was sure that my dearest cousin wasn’t going to let that slide by. My only hope right now was that Cash had weakened him enough to give me a fighting chance to finish this.

Unfortunately, by the way the foliage was shaking, it seemed as if the injuries Cash inflected on him had somehow miraculously healed, as it was clear he was taking no mercy on the foliage to get to me.

Even though I wanted to believe that I could do this, I knew I had no chance in hell to beat him, but I couldn’t allow that to stop me from putting up one hell of a fight against him. Like I had said, I wasn’t a quitter, and right now, I was going to give it everything I had, even if I only had fifty percent to give.

Thicker branches from above my head now began to cave in on me, almost taking my body completely to the ground, as I raised my hands above my head to shield myself from the

falling debris. It felt like I was being buried alive underneath all the debris that was now caving in around me, and I couldn’t help but fear that I might not get my chance to save us, as I tried my best to get to Cash’s body to help shield him too.

Unfortunately, I had failed at finding the stake, and I honestly at this point had no clue what the hell I was going to do to protect us from what was about to break inside at any moment. But right now, I found myself feeling the need to cover Cash’s body with my own, as it was the only thing I knew that I could do successfully to prevent him from getting harmed further at the moment.

With my hands protecting the back of my head, and my body completely covering and shielding as much of Cash’s massive body as I could, I just lay there on top of him, waiting for the makeshift earthquake to stop, while the foliage continued to land heavily on my back.

Between my leg throbbing and the shooting pain stemming once again from my ribs, I didn’t know how much more I could take before my body decided to shut down on me. In all honesty, I had no clue how the hell I was still hanging on, especially with the amount of blood I was losing, but here I was, bearing down the pain.

I once again held my eyes tightly closed, while I bit down on my bottom lip, not wanting to allow the screams to spill from my lips from the excessive pain I was now in, as I knew that it would only be a sign of weakness. Knowing that I couldn’t allow my cousin to know how badly injured I was, I bit down harder, as the taste of iron filled my mouth, while blood slowly seeped into it from my bottom lip.

The weight of the foliage now on my back became extremely heavy, and I prayed that it would stop falling in, as I honestly could now feel it pressing heavily into my ribs. With my face now pressed against the bare flesh of Cash’s back, I tried to block out the pain and take comfort in the warmth of his flesh against my own, as I began to feel like I was imagining it healing me.

For a moment, I almost felt like I was on cloud nine, as the pain completely disappeared, while all I could feel was the warmth Cash was putting off, as if it was meant just for me. It had me thinking back to the night when Chance and Chase had been poisoned, making me wonder if the healing powers of a mate were truly real, because at this very moment, it was clear that I was feeling something being this close to Cash.

Just as I began to believe that the mate bond between us was somehow healing me, the pressure from the falling foliage stopped, and I felt myself taking a deep breath relieved that the cave in was over. But as I took that breath, I didn’t even get the chance to exhale before I felt two large hands wrapped tightly around my ankles. Before I knew what was happening, I was being ripped straight off Cash’s body, as I opened my eyes and began to try and fight off my assailant, while I reached for anything I could get my hands on to fight him off.
