Chapter 173-1

Raven’s POV

Honestly, I don’t remember much of what transpired after that moment of being reunited with Mazie and Cash, but somehow, we all, including Jacob, made it out of those hills of West Virginia alive thanks to Carl and his people. As for Lexi, it was like she had disappeared into thin air, and if I was being honest, it was probably for the best, because there wasn’t a single damn one of us that didn’t want to strangle her to death.

Beyond tired and exhausted, I believed that all of us just wanted to head back to Beaumont and sleep in our own beds, but none of us were healed enough to travel at least for the night. Unfortunately, we couldn’t stay at the bigfoots‘ camp, as it wasn’t safe for any of us to be in those woods, especially with what had just happened.

Thankfully, Dr. Palmer owned an actual home here in West Virginia, where he had us all transferred to, so that he could treat our wounds to get us safely on our way back to where we belonged. He believed that more of these rogue Alphas would be coming for me, especially now since I had killed one of their kin.

I know now why he now insisted that we be moved quickly from the camp to his house, as it wasn’t just about our safety, but the safety of their own people too. With this revelation, it was clear that we needed to get back to Beaumont, because I couldn’t continue to ask the bigfoots to put their lives on the line for me. Just being around me was putting their lives in danger, and I felt bad that the doctor and Carl were still doing so to protect us.

Unfortunately, getting home wasn’t going to be that simple, because Mazie had suffered some severe wounds, as she had taken some massive blows from the rogue Beta in their altercation. It was apparent that it was going to take her the longest to heal, but one thing about Mazie was that she was one tough cookie, and I had no doubt that she would be ready to head back home the first chance we got.

My wounds, on the other hand, let’s just say I was shocked by how quickly I was healing, as the pain in my ribs was nothing but an annoying throb. My leg now, it was a different story, as it was a complete miracle that the bleeding had finally stopped, and all that was left in the place of the massive wound was claw marks that were a shade of purple.

As for Cash, his wounds were healing much faster than all of us, but then again, he hadn’t left my side since I threw my arms around him, making me believe that there was something behind this whole mate thing and healing. Dr. Palmer seemed to believe that was the case too, as he had advised me that it would be best if Cash and I stayed in the same room tonight alone, for healing purposes, of course.

But with the continuous howls surrounding the doctor’s house from the rogues that had followed us, because I was now supposedly their new Alpha, I honestly didn’t feel comfortable leaving Mazie alone in a room. Jacob, of course, was quick to offer to stay with her, as he winked at me, before looking at Cash with a huge smile on his face.

Of course, Jacob would be thinking that he was doing me a solid, but right now, if I was being honest, I was a bit nervous just thinking about being with Cash alone, especially with the way things were left between the two of us. Honestly, I don’t remember everything that transpired that night, but bit by bit, small moments are coming back to me, and, of course, the intimate moment we shared had to be one of those moments.

As Cash closed the bedroom door behind us, I stood there frozen a few steps into the room, just staring at the bed in front of me, as my heart pounded in my chest. I was by no means scared of being alone with Cash, but I was definitely nervous for sure, because his mere touch today upon my flesh seemed somehow different.
