Chapter 178-2
Chapter 178-2
Come to think about it, all my own pain in discomfort seemed to be gone, making me question how this was even possible as it hadn’t even been twenty–four hours since the incident. I mean I know I was told about how our wolves were to be able to heal our bodies, but this was absolutely insane, and I couldn’t wrap my mind fully around it. But right now, I didn’t have the time to just stand here trying to figure out the whole biogenetics behind it all, as another howl at that moment rang out, drawing my attention back to the reason I had rushed downstairs.
I only took a second to look out the small windowpane to see Cash still standing there, before I moved to open the door, dismissing Mazie’s proposal, but Mazie once again stopped me by saying, “Cash is setting the ground rules, which needs to be done if we are to head home today.”
My hand froze on the doorknob, stopping the final click from happening, as my eyes narrowed while I began to process what Mazie was saying. When it finally dawned on me, I retracted my hand, while I looked through the small windowpane at Cash, now seeing what was happening in a different light.
These rogues were no longer with an Alpha or a Beta because of us, and by the looks of things, they weren’t just going to move on or go back to wherever the hell they had come from. By what I was gathering, they were going to follow us back to Beaumont, which was why Cash was out there setting the ground rules, since it was his family’s territory and pack that they would now be a part of.
But in all honesty, I wasn’t quite sure even with Cash setting these ground rules that I trusted them, especially with everything that happened yesterday. I understand the whole concept that they were following their Alpha’s command, but it had me questioning why they had become rogues in the first place.
From what little I knew about their world, I had gathered that most of them had done something bad and had been exiled from their packs. It had me worried about taking them back to Beaumont with us, because I didn’t know if we could trust that when the next rogue Alpha attacks, they wouldn’t go back to being rogue on us all, putting the lives of Cash’s pack in more danger.
But as I stood there looking out the small window, I looked beyond Cash and the line of wolves, noticing they weren’t the only ones now outside. Beyond the clearing in the backyard, against the tree line, I noticed a group of women and children gathered closely together. Even from this distance, I felt like I could see fear in their eyes, and I realized at that moment that not all these rogues had done something to be forced to live this life, as it was clear some of

Witnessing this, it tossed a greater portion of my fears aside, but it also made me feel like a terrible person for judging them without truly knowing them and their reasoning, because in reality, I was no better than they were. Hell, I may even be worse than them, as it was now clear that I had the blood of a rogue Alpha in me, which obviously wasn’t by my choice.
“Speaking of heading home…” Jacob says as he moves to stand beside me, placing his hand on my shoulder, drawing my attention now to him before he continues to say to me, “I hate to leave you like this, but my parents were expecting me home by now.”
I don’t know why, but I just stood there, staring at Jacob without saying a single word back to him, as I tried to compute that he was leaving me. Of course, I knew that he had to eventually head back to California, but I didn’t want him to leave my side, not just yet. With everything that had happened and everything that was going to happen, I knew he was the one person that truly knew me the best and had my back.
