Chapter 179-1
Raven’s POV
My eyes narrowed as my head snapped to look in Mazie’s direction, wondering why on Earth she would blurt this out to Cash. There was no doubt in my mind that she could obviously see how upset I was and that the offer that Jacob had made was an innocent act with no underlining objective of hurting anyone.
Through what little tears that were now left in my eyes, I glared at her as she just sat there eating her breakfast, like she hadn’t even said a single damn word. Honestly, after Cash had saved her life yesterday, I would have thought that she would have let bygones be bygones, burying the hatchet between them, but by the sounds of it she was holding onto whatever it was that had happened. Unfortunately for me, Mazie wasn’t ready to let whatever it was go, reluctantly leaving me to be the one caught in their damn crossfires, which honestly surprised the hell out of me.
Never in a million years did I think that Mazie would throw me under a bus like she was. It was as if I meant little to nothing to her, which honestly was throwing me for a loop. Hell, she had just risked her life for me on more than one occasion in the past couple of days, making me believe that I could trust her with my life. But right now, as I stare at her, it was like she was a totally different person, while she just continued to sit there, eating her breakfast, like none of us were even in the room with her.
Something about her behavior seemed very off, and it was beginning to make me question if something had happened last night after we had left her bedside, because I honestly felt like things were back to normal between all of us. But it was clear that it wasn’t, because something obviously had her panties in a bunch this morning once again, with Cash.
Unfortunately, I didn’t have much time to really think about it, because a low growl now rumbled from Cash, making me realize that I was now on damage control between him and Jacob. Knowing that I had to deescalate the situation I had on hand before it became more than it should, I quickly moved, placing myself between the two of them, hoping that I could stop whatever macho male bullshit that was about to go down.
Now that I had myself placed right in front of Cash, blocking his direct path to Jacob, I stared up at him, noticing that his eyes were focused directly behind me. You know the saying, “If looks could kill.“? Well, this was definitely one of those moments. There was no doubt in my mind that I had to do something quick, because I could feel heat now radiating from Cash, telling me he was about to lose his shit.
Letting my instincts take over, I placed the palm of my hand on Cash’s chest, and sure enough, his eyes slowly moved from Jacob to me. As I stared up into his eyes, there was no

doubt that he was on the verge of losing it, but I now was questioning what real emotionality was causing this, because I wasn’t quite sure that it was anger that I was seeing in his eyes.
For some reason, it looked more like pain, maybe even the feeling of being emotionally hurt, and I knew that I had mistaken what the growl had come from him meant. I should have known that he would never do anything deliberately to hurt Jacob, as he clearly knew how much Jacob meant to me.
Staring down deep into my eyes, Cash tilted his head ever so slightly before a whirlwind of emotions hit me all at once like a freight train. Instantly, I felt myself stumbling forward into Cash’s arms from the overwhelming feeling of dread that had hit me like a ton of bricks, but I quickly realized that what I was feeling wasn’t my own emotions, leading me to believe that they had to be Cash’s.
Now that I had pretty much stumbled into his chest, his arms automatically wrapped around me like a nurturing cocoon, adding another layer of emotions to the ones I was already feeling. But these emotions were far different than the first ones, as these ones encompassed love and desire that was directed solely towards me.
