Chapter 180-1
Chapter 180-1
Raven’s POV
It’s crazy how a simple word can hurt so much, but I know that Jacob’s departure to go back home was for the best. I hated it when I had to say goodbye to him, and for some reason that seven–letter word no longer held the same meaning that it used to mean for me. Now, it held nothing but dread and worry that this might be the last time that I ever saw him, because truth be told, it honestly could be.
With many tears falling from the corners of my eyes, I said my goodbyes to Jacob, before Cash helped my sobbing ass into the front seat of the truck, while Mazie sat in silence in the backseat, unaffected. I still hadn’t taken the time to address her little act of betrayal, but right now, I honestly didn’t have it in me to.
At this point, all I wanted to do was to close my eyes and rest during the drive home, but with everything that had happened these past couple of days, I found it hard to let my mind be at ease. I was beyond exhausted, both emotionally and physically, and even with my eyes closed and Cash’s soothing touch upon my hand, I found myself unable to truly rest as I wondered what awaited all of us when we returned to Beaumont.
From what I had overheard during Cash’s call back home, Chance and their father had their hands full trying to secure the town from another attack. As for Chase, well, it sounded as if he was missing in action, which honestly worried the hell out of me, because it wasn’t like him to run from a fight.
With the little bits and pieces of Chase’s real self that he had shown me, I knew he wouldn’t just abandon his family, even if they were at odds with each other. I mean, yeah, they had their disputes, but those disputes were mostly over Jessica and me.
There was no doubt in my mind that if it came to the wellbeing of his family and pack, Chase would fight to his last breath to protect them all, which is why I was so worried to overhear that he wasn’t a part of helping his family to secure the town. Honestly, I would have never in a million years thought that I would be the one to defend him again, but here I was, feeling like I was going to have to.
Looking back, I truly was a prime example that Chase would fight to keep us all safe, as I now know that he had been the one that had protected me from the rogue Alpha that day at the school. Even with all the hate that he said he had towards me, which I realize now was a lie, he chased that rogue Alpha away, protecting me, and saving not only my life, but I am sure the lives of the other students.
His brothers had to have known that it had been him that had protected me, hell, protected

me on more than one occasion, as I now look back, but for some reason I felt like they couldn’t see through the façade he was projecting. Unfortunately, I knew that I was the only one that could make them all see that we could work together for the greater cause. I needed to convince the three of them that, regardless of whether they were on the same page about me or not, that this was so much more than just about a mate bond between us.
It was clear that these rogue Alphas had a vendetta that ages back generations in my family, and I knew that if I ran from it, I would only be cursing my future legacy to it, just like my mother and grandmother had done to me. Plus, I honestly didn’t even want to think about all the innocent people that have gotten caught in the crossfires over the years, and those that were still to be caught.
Thinking about all the stress that I now had laying on my shoulders, I felt like my head was going to burst. But thankfully, at some point during the drive home, my exhaustion must have gotten the better of me, and my mind finally slowed itself down enough to allow me to drift off to a peaceful sleep.
