Chapter22-2

I felt a sense of relief once I was in the house when the door was shut behind me, making me lean again. it, closing my eyes and taking a deep breath, now feeling like I was able to breathe since the incident.

“Rough day at school?” I heard my grandmother’s voice ask, making me open my eyes to see her once again sitting on her recliner chair, rocking away, making me wonder if she ever moves from it.

Obviously, I couldn’t tell her the truth about my day, as I was sure that she would call my shrink back in California in a heartbeat. So instead, I just said to her, “Yeah, you could say that.” As I tried to head straig to my room, but she stopped me by saying, “Raven, is everything okay? You look a little flush.”

Not turning to face her, I said to her, “I’m just late taking my medication. I will be fine after I take it.”

“Honestly, I don’t think you should be on any of that crap. I think that is what messed your mother up in th head, all those years ago.” She said to me, making me turn to look at her with a curious look on my face. because I didn’t know that my mother was on any mental drugs like me.

“By the look on your face, I can see you didn’t know. Did she ever tell you why she left here?” My grandmother now asks, grabbing my full attention, making me move back to the living room, as I say to her, “She just told me it was to better her life.”

“Horseradish. She could tell that lie all she wanted, but that wasn’t the real reason she left here.”

“Then why did she leave here?” I asked as I moved to take a seat on the old couch, wanting to hear why my grandmother thought that she had left, because I had been questioning it myself, especially after talking with Chance’s grandmother.

“I don’t like to speak of the dead poorly, but the truth is your mother was never the same after the incident that happened with Evan’s twin brother.”

“Wait. Evan was a twin?” I asked in shock, as this was the first time I had heard about him.

My grandmother shook her head, as she continued to rock on her recliner, before she said, Yes Evan was the second-born Ryder twin, and he was your mother’s soul mate She told me that is written in the stars that they were meant to be together. But Evan’s elder twin brother, Ethan was in love with her how “Hold up. Both the brothers were in love with my mother?” I asked my grandmother as i thought about any own situation, and how Cash had tried to make moves on me too at the waterhole

“Yes, dear. Both the twins were in love with her, but your mother only had eyes for Evan She liked finan and she cared about him dearly, but her heart belonged to Evan

“Then why did she leave? Did Ethan do something to make her leave asked, now needing to know what truly happened between my mother and the brothers

“No dear, Ethan would never have done anything to hurt your mother

Now I was totally confused, and had no clue where my grandmother was going with this story making me

My grandmother stopped rocking in her chair, as her face turned serious, before she said to me, “Your mother left abruptly after Ethan passed away. She said that she couldn’t live here anymore, and that she was afraid for her life. She talked nonsense about a creature not from this world that was after her. I tried to get her help, took her to the town doctor, who put her on some medication, but after she started it, she wasn’t my baby girl anymore. Next thing know, her clothes were gone, and so was she. I sat here for years wondering where she was, and if she was alive. She didn’t call me until the day you were born, but even after that phone call she refused to return here to visit me.”

I just sat there staring at my grandmother in shock, realizing that this thing I saw today must have been what my mother was talking about all those years ago, and I had to wonder if it was the reason that Ethan was no longer here with us today.
