“Find anything?” I asked as walked into the locker room seeing Cash and Mazie still looking around for

evidence of what was in here with Raven

I wasn’t buying Raven’s story of not seeing anything especially because of the way she reacted when I to her Mazie would be bringing her belongings over later it wasn’t even the abrupt “no” that she had given me, but the way her heart began to race in her chest, as it was clear that she was concerned about Mazi

“You can’t stop seeing her. It will devastate her.” Mazie tells me, but she doesn’t understand that it’s not just Raven it will affect, but me too, but I must do everything in my power to keep her safe.

“No, Mazie is right. You can’t draw yourself away from her. Raven trusts you, and you have already started the bond between the two of you. If you pull away now, it’s going to affect your bond with ber. Plus, she has been through too much, and stepping away is cly going to hurt her more than she is already hurting.” Cash says as the voice of reasoning, and I know he is right that it will affect our bond, but what other choices do we have?

“We can take turns being with hei, making sure she is always protected. I have just about every class with her, so I can watch over her during school.” Mazie offers, and Cash chimes in by saying, “And the two of us can take turns after school during her practices.”

“But that only leaves one of us to help dad on the ranch. Chase can’t be counted on, plus he has football practice every night after school himself.”

“Then why can’t Chase help by watching over her while she is at practice, since he is already going to be on the field?” Mazie asks, and Cash and I both turn to look at her, like we couldn’t believe she even said

“Mazie, seriously? You know he can’t bè trusted. Plus, don’t get me started on the whole Jessica and him thing. It’s like I don’t even know him anymore. Besides, he obviously doesn’t feel the bond with Raven like we do, and he wouldn’t take protecting her seriously.” Cash blatantly tells Mazie, not holding back his feelings for the current situation between us and our brother, making me realize just how bad things have gotten recently between the three of us, but unfortunately, he was right.

“Fine. I will drop my weekdays at the Diner, so that I can help after school too.”

Chapter 23-2

Cash shakes his head, as he says to her, “No Mazie, I know you need the money.”

I knew money was tight right now for our pack members since the ranch hadn’t been doing so well, I was hoping that things were going to change soon, with the upcoming business deal I was making. I the first time that our father was letting me take the reins of the business, and I knew this was his wi testing me to see if I was ready to take my place as the head Alpha of our pack. There was no doubt mind if the deal went through with Alpha Zane from Freedom Port, that our pack would have future v and security from the ranch like they used to have.

“I’ll talk to Joey and let him know that you are needed for pack business during the weekdays for the couple of weeks, so it doesn’t affect your job security. Until then, the three of us were going to have t work together to keep her safe until we can hunt this Alpha Rogue down.” I told them, as I moved tow the locker that I knew Raven had been using, because I could smell her scent beaming from it, but stopped when I saw a cell phone lying on the floor beside it.

Reaching down, picking the cell phone up, a picture of Raven and her parents lit up on the screen. I couldn’t help but stare at it, as her smile looked genuine, and she looked happy, and I wished that someday she would smile at me like that.

“Whose phone?” Cash asked as he moved beside me, taking in Raven’s screensaver picture like I was, he says, “That must have been her parents. She looks so different.”

“Happy.” Slipped from my lips, responding to what he had just said, as he said back to me, “Yeah, happy

“I’ll take that.” Mazie now said, plucking the phone from my hand, as she says, “There’s probably private stuff on it that she doesn’t want you two boys to see.”

“But Mazie, don’t you want to see who she was before she came here?” Cash asked, pleading with her, al I knew that Mazie had a weak spot for Cash, as the two of them were like two peas in a pod.

“Okay, but we are only looking at her photos.” She told him, as she opened Raven’s phone, hitts ig the

photos’ icon, while Cash and I moved to her side, wanting to see more pictures of Ray from her life in

California.

Mazie started at the last picture Raven had taken, which was a beautiful picture of a sunset on the beach, before she flipped back to the next picture, which was a selfie of her and her parents eating ice cream on a boardwalk. Flipping again, it was a picture of her holding up a letter, and I knew exactly when these pictures had been taken it was the day her parents had died, and it was the last time that a real smile was

on her face.

I stepped away from Mazie, with my heart now aching for Raven, as I couldn’t imagine the trauma she had gone through losing both her parents at the same time, as I now could clearly see the pain she was trying

to hide.

“Wait, stop. Who’s that?” Cash asks, letting out a low growl, and I quickly moved back to look over Mazie’s

shoulder to see who Cash was referring to, as Mazie chuckles and says, “Looks like a boyfriend to me. You two might have some competition waiting for her back in California.”

I ripped the phone from Mazie’s hands, trying to hold back my own growl as I stared at the picture of Raven with some guy with his arm around her, wondering if he was the real reason why she wanted to

leave here after our senior year was over.

“You both need to chill. If she had a boyfriend back in California, I’m sure she would have mentioned it to me by now.” Mazie said as she plucked the phone back from my hand, turning it off, before I heard her say under her breath, “I knew it was a bad idea to look at her phone.” As she began to gather Raven’s things

into her backpack.

But the damage was done, seeing her with another guy, and it was crazy for me to assume that I was her first kiss and that a girl as beautiful as her didn’t have a boyfriend before now. I guess Mazie was right about there being private stuff on Raven’s phone that she wouldn’t want us to see, but now that I have seen that, I wonder what else her life was like before she came here.
