Chapter 180-3
“Well, she failed at whatever it was she was trying to accomplish, and I am back home where I belong.”
I barely got the word home out of my mouth, before Chance’s head snapped back in my direction, with a total look of surprise now registering on his face, which was exactly what I was trying to accomplish. If I couldn’t take his guilt away, then I was going to overshadow that guilt with the positives that came from what happened.
“Home?” Whispered from his lips, like he was questioning it out loud to himself, not truly believing that I had just referred to Beaumont as my home. But when I let a smile creep onto my face, along with nodding my head, it finally sunk into Chance with what I was saying.
I knew how hard it had to be for Chance to believe that I was calling Beaumont home, because since our first talk I had been upfront and honest with him about my plans on returning to California once I graduated. He had tried his best to convince me that there was nothing left there for me, but of course, I argued with him that my dreams still remained there. But now, after these past few days, I see his side of the argument, and even though 1 hated to admit it, he was right.
My family roots were here in Beaumont, and if I was being honest, so were the Ryder brothers, who were giving me the one thing in this world that matters the most, which was their love. That alone meant so much more to me than some degree that I could get at a college closer to here, just like I now know that my mother had done.
My whole reasoning for wanting to attend Berkeley in the first place was to follow in my mother’s footsteps and pursue the dream we had dreamt together. But now I have new dreams that I have acquired since moving here, and I realized that I could fulfill them both by attending the local college that my mother had initially started at.
As if the shell shock of what I said finally wore off, Chance’s hand beneath my own finally relaxed, allowing our fingers to intertwine before his other hand reached for my face, gently cupping the side of my cheek.
The mere touch of his flesh, now upon my own, sent a shockwave of impulses throughout my entire body, forcing me to close my eyes, while I tried to steady myself. It was crazy how each of the brothers‘ touches felt so differently, but so much alike at the same time. There was one thing that I can say was exactly the same between at least Cash and Chance, and that was that both their touches now stirred awake my other side.
Opening my eyes, I stared up at Chance, instantly feeling a deeper connection to him than 1 ever felt before. Something was telling me that this stronger connection I was feeling was

due to Cash’s mark, but how could one brother’s claim on me strengthen a connection with
another?
Regardless of whether that was the case, I felt a need or, should I say, a strong desire right now towards Chance. This desire was much stronger than I ever felt before towards him, making me wonder if my heat was returning, as a fire erupted in my core, while the tips of Chance’s fingers continued to trace the outline of Cash’s mark.
