Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 376

Chapter 183-2

For a moment, I wondered what the hell had caused the sound, but then something beneath the crushed metal of the hood caught my attention. At first, it looked like small sparks, but quickly those small sparks ignited into a flame, making my planted feet take a sudden step towards the truck. But within just that one step, all eyes turned in my direction, and before I had time to respond, at least a half dozen of the rogues pounced on me.

My mind was so fixated on Raven’s safety that I had let my guard down, and now I was paying the price for that, as I fell to the ground beneath a pile of rogue wolves, biting at the gums to take a chunk out of me. Thankfully, neither my wolf nor I was going to go down so easily, and with the first awakening of pain, I shifted into my huge Alpha wolf, before letting out a growl that would awaken the dead.

Getting to my feet, my wolf quickly went to work, taking down the rogues two by two, but as one dropped to the ground another would replace it. My heart was sinking in my chest as I tried fighting my way towards the wreckage, knowing that Raven was out cold, trapped inside it. Right now, I was her only means of help, but it was clear that these ruthless rogue wolves knew that too, as they were doing everything in their power to keep me from reaching her.

As the flames grew higher, illuminating the clearing, causing illustrated shadows to imprint on the tree line, I could feel the urgency rise within me, while I kept trying to edge my way towards the flames, praying to the Moon Goddess for help.

My wolf’s coat was becoming saturated in the crimson liquid that I was ripping from beneath their flesh, not caring anymore if I injured them or killed them, as long as they were another body out of my way of getting to my mate. I also was beginning to see red, but I didn’t know if it was their potent blood coating the pupils of my eyes or if it was the fact that I was losing it. Whichever it was, I was doing my best to hold my shit together and stay alive, praying that Cash or hell, even Chase would make it here in time to help me save our mate.

As the seconds ticked by, an endless supply of rogues continued to pounce on me, causing every muscle in my body to throb from exhaustion. At some point, I thought I was making headway towards the truck, but in reality, I was further away from Raven than when I had started. Somehow, during the fight, I had lost a lot of ground, and I found myself backed against the tree line.

I was beginning to believe that my father was right when he said that neither my brothers nor I were ready for the role as Alpha of our pack, since I was failing at just the simplest task of protecting my mate, but he and my uncle were partially to blame for that. The two of them knew exactly what trials my brothers and I would someday have to face because of their own past with Raven’s mother.

Chapter 192

After all these years, they had to have known that this day would come, and instead of sheltering us from our pack’s secrets, they should have been preparing us for the worst. I know how hard it must have been for my father to lose Raven’s mother and then my mother, but you would have thought he would want to prepare my brothers and I, so the same thing wouldn’t happen to us. But instead, here I was, fighting for my life, while my mate’s body lay motionless in the wreckage, just feet away from.

A part of me was bitter thinking about it, and I couldn’t help but feel like I was a failure, even though I was giving it everything that I had. But there were just so many of them, and it made me realize that I needed both of my brothers right now more than ever.

As if my silent prayers were answered at that moment by the Moon Goddess herself, I felt the earth beneath my feet begin to shake, before I heard my brother leave out a howl, letting me know that the calvary had arrived. One by one, the rogues that were on my back began to disappear, giving me hope that I could make it to Raven before it was too late.

But as I take out the last rogue and turn towards the wreckage, finally seeing a direct path to save her, the truck explodes into a ball of flames, sending a surge of energy in my direction, knocking me straight on my ass.
