Chapter 24-1
Raven’s POV
Of course, I couldn’t tell my grandmother that I didn’t think that my mother was crazy, because I had see the same thing she had. Then again, maybe both of us were crazy, and this was some kind of genetic mental illness that made us see things that weren’t real, after-suffering trauma.
Ethan’s death could have brought it forward, just like my parents’ deaths had brought it on for me, but m mother seemed to have overcome her illness by leaving here. I don’t remember her ever being paranoid sick, nor do I remember her ever taking medication, leading me to believe that she had somehow overcome whatever this was that we both obviously have.
But now that I sit here in my bedroom, with the curtains drawn shut, worried that the monster was lurkin outside the walls of this house, waiting for me to step outside, I had to wonder how I was going to deal with what was going on inside my head for a whole school year: Unlike my mother, she was an adult, and she could leave here, but I on the other hand, was stuck in this place for the remainder of the school yea
A knock on my door made me jump, as my door slowly creeped open, while my heart raced in my chest, before my eyes focused on Mazie stepping into my room. Her eyes widened as soon as she saw me, and lowered my knees from my chest, as I sat up straight, not wanting her to see me this way.
Holding my bookbag up slightly, she said to me, “I grabbed your stuff.” As she said it down on the floor by my dresser, before she moved to my bed, taking a seat beside me, while I pulled a pillow to my chest for
security.
“Want to talk about what happened?” She asks me, and I shake my head, not wanting to talk about it, because I know just like my mother, everyone was going to think I was crazy.
“Chance says you don’t remember anything…” She pauses for a second, staring at me, before she continues to say, “But I’m not buying that. It’s just us girls now. You can tell me what happened and what
you saw.”
“I didn’t see anything. It was too dark.” I lied to her, hoping that she would buy it, but Me wasn’t stupid. nor was she the kind of girl that one could pull a sheet over her eyes.
“Come on Raven. I can clearly see you are distraught Plus, Cash and I found something in the locker
room”
Tightening my hold on the pillow, as my heart began to beat heavily in my chest with the anticipation of what they found, I asked Mazie, “What did you find?”
“A very large paw print. So, don’t lie to me I know that you saw something, and I know that whatever it was, it has you scared.”
I looked away from Mazie, now knowing that the monster was real, and that it wasn’t a figment of my imagination or a mental illness, but if it wasn’t one of those, and the monster was real, that was scarier

“Were you able to see its eyes?” Mazie asked me, and I closed my eyes, remembering its glowing red eye knowing that they were going to haunt my dreams for the rest of my life.
