Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 381

Chapter 185-2

For a moment, I thought about throwing the towel in, but it wasn’t like me to do that, even in a vulnerable state like this. My mother had taught me one major lesson in life and that was to never give up without a fight. I now see how hard she had to fight to just stay alive for as long as she had, and I would be damned if I was going to allow a little mind over matter to stop me from staying alive myself.

Just when I thought about that, the familiar scent of Chance grew closer, telling me that he was here for me. As if his scent awoke something within me, I found a newfound strength begin to awake within me, and the barrier wall that once felt impenetrable began to crumble within me. But as that wall began to fall, images of why I had placed those barriers up flashed before my closed eyes, forcing me to open my eyes to dismiss them.

For a moment, everything was out of focus as my head felt like it was still spinning. Fluttering my eyes a few times, I focused my sight on a male silhouette standing not too far from me. But as everything came a hundred percent into focus in the dimlit room, the male figure turned away from me, but not before I realized who it was.

Quickly, I reached out for him, stopping him from leaving my side, while I wondered if my mind and eyes were playing tricks on me. His body instantly tensed up and froze, as my hand wrapped around his wrist, while he remained standing there, looking away from me.

Opening my mouth, I called out his name, which came out barely above a whisper. My throat was dry and felt like it was on fire, but I guess that was expected with the ordeal I had just been through. Slowly, Chase turned to look at me, and as he did, my mind instantly went to Chance and the accident we were just in. I couldn’t stop myself from thinking the worst, especially because it was Chase by my bedside instead of Chance.

Real tears instantly began to form in my now awakened eyes, as hysteria threatened to take over. My heart felt like it was shattering into a million little pieces as I stared up into his eyes, too afraid to ask about Chance, not knowing if I could handle the truth.

Chase just stood there, not saying a single word to me, as he stared down at me with a hardened look on his face, making me believe my worst fears were true. My head began to shake back and forth, as warm tears slowly slid down my cheeks, while I bit my bottom lip. trying to hold back the pain that wanted to scream from my lips.

But biting my lip only worked for so long, before I found myself trying to sniffle back the heartache I was feeling. Unable to bear the pain of not knowing, I softly cried out Chance’s name, as I looked up through blurred eyes into Chase’s, still holding onto the tiniest chance of hope that Chance was alive and well.

Chapter 105

Chase’s brows furrowed before his eyes widened with acknowledgment to my unspoken question. Quickly, he shook his head, while he moved to my side with what looked like compassion, as he said to me, Chance is fine. You both made it out of the accident alive.

My hand released Chase’s wrist, while I exhaled a long breath, relieved to know that I hadn’t lost another person that I cared deeply about. My tears instantly began to fade away, while I gently wiped the streaks left by the tears from my cheeks, but as those tears dissipated and my eyes focused on my surroundings, I began to question exactly where I was.

The room I was in was glamorous, reminding me of a bedroom in a mansion back in California. Between its size and décor, it wasn’t the kind of room that I would foresee in any of the houses or establishments in Beaumont, leading me to believe that I was no longer within the pack’s territory.

My eyes, now filled full of questions, continued to scan the room until they landed on Chase. I opened my mouth to question him, but shut it before a single word came out, as I remembered the argument that Chance and I had back at the ranch about him wanting to get me to safety.

It infuriated me that in the end he had won, but with the accident and me being unconscious, I could see why he went through with it. But even if that explained why I was here, it didn’t explain how I was in Chase’s care, especially when I was told he had been missing in action this whole time.

Knowing by the look on Chase’s face right now that I had to tread lightly, because I knew better than anyone that his mood could switch at the drop of a dime, I thought very carefully about what came out of my mouth next, before I finally said to him, I am guessing this place is some kind of safehouse?

Chase’s eyebrows once again furrowed, as he stared at me with a look of confusion on his face, before he said, “Safehouse.Under his breath, like he was confused by my use of words.

His confusion now had me looking at him with suspicion, as I secretly questioned if I was way off from what was really happening here. But before I could ask another question to get to the bottom of what was going on, the door to the room flew open, grabbing both Chase and my attention.
