Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 388

I waited, giving Chase the opportunity to speak on his own free will, but I quickly realized that he wasn’t going to be forthcoming with the answers I sought, because he was lost in his own guilt. Narrowing my eyes, I stepped towards him, as I began to feel my wolf restlessly stirring within me, wanting answers just as badly as I did.

With barely a foot between us, I stopped and stared straight up into his eyes, not allowing his gaze to drift away from me, before I said with a hint of anger in my tone, You need to tell me exactly where we are and why we are here.”

Chase’s mouth slightly opened, and I felt like he was going to finally give me answers, but before a single word of explanation could come from his lips, a low howl rang through the forest, coming from the direction we had just come from. Chase didn’t even bother to look over his shoulder, before he reached out and roughly grabbed me by the arm, forcefully pulling me in the opposite direction, while he finally said, We need to keep moving. I’ll explain everything when you are safe.

My feet inadvertently began to move, but my mind was stuck where I had just been standing, as I tried wrapping my head around what he was saying. Just moments ago, we were in a room together swapping our DNA, with Chase not showing an ounce of fear for my safety. But now, all of a sudden, he’s worried about my wellbeing?

My pride at that moment got the best of me and I found myself planting my feet in the rocky soil of the river embankment, while I forcefully pulled my arm from Chase’s grip. Honestly, I didn’t care who the hell was chasing us, because two plus two were beginning to add up, and from my calculation, Chase had sold me out to the enemy and was now feeling remorse for doing so.

Raven, we don’t have time for this.Chase said, as he turned back to face me, trying to grab my arm once again, but this time I was quicker than him.

Tears of betrayal filled my eyes, as I took a step back from him, grinding my teeth together, while I tried to pull myself from the pits of darkness that threatened to engulf me. My body began to shake along with my head, before I finally was able to accuse Chase of my accusations of his betrayal.

You sold me out to save yourself, and now you’re feeling guilty for doing so.I said, as I tried to hold back my tears, not wanting him to see how much this was killing me, while I secretly held onto the hope that I was wrong.

Seconds passed by, as I tried to give him time to prove me wrong, but that little bit of hope that I was hanging on to dissipated when not a damn word came from his lips. Instead, his

eyes told me everything I needed to know.

Instantly, I felt my heart break into a million little pieces, knowing that I meant so little to him. Honestly, I don’t know why I was surprised. Maybe it was because I thought the two of us had turned a new leaf. But I guess what happened between us that night I went into heat at my grandmother’s house was just a result of my heat and our bond taking hold of the

moment.

Tears began to seep from the corners of my eyes, forcing me to turn my back to him, as I tried to hide my heart that I was foolishly wearing on my sleeve. I began to silently damn myself up one end and down another for being so gullible, thinking that I had a chance with him, when he had told me countless times that he wasn’t interested in making me his mate.

RavenPainfully whispered from his lips, as if he couldn’t bear to say my name, but I didn’t dare acknowledge him.

For a moment, everything around me went silent, as I found myself grieving a love that obviously never existed. Honestly, I couldn’t understand why his betrayal and rejection were hitting me so hard. I mean, I knew that there was a possibility that this could happen, but 1 never imagined in a million years that it would feel like this.

Lost in my thoughts, I barely noticed that Chase had moved in front of me, but I was in too much pain to turn away from him. I didn’t have the energy to hide the anguish he had caused me, and if he was feeling guilty for handing me over to the enemy, then I might as well let him see the full wrath of the pain that his betrayal had on me.

As I continued to silently wallow in my pain, blocking out whatever was now coming from his lips, I realized that without Chase I might not stand a chance to survive this socalled damn family curse. Feeling defeated and knowing why Chase had brought me here in the first place, I decided that maybe it would be for the best to just hand myself over and save the two brothers that I knew would die for me. But as that thought crossed my mind, Chase grabbed my upper arms, shaking me back to life.

Slowly, his voice came back in tune, and his words turned into pleas. Raven, are you listening to me? We need to move now. I was wrong for bringing you here. Please forgive me

But his pleads and apologies were unfortunately too late, because as I looked past him at the path that led us here, I watched as red eyes closed in around us,
