Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 389

Chapter 189

Raven’s POV

Going somewhere lover boy? You should’ve known better.Lexi said slyly as she taunted Chase, while she snapped her fingers like she was commanding the rogue wolves to

surround us.

Wiping away my tears, not wanting her to see me in my weakened state, I began to quickly scan our surroundings, counting the number of rogues she had at her disposal. It didn’t take long for me to realize that I had messed up Chase’s escape plan, as it was clear that we were outnumbered.

The small window that we had was now gone, and the only option I felt like we had left was to surrender. But for a moment, I thought that Chase was going to lay into her, as he clearly was trying to hold back a growl, but to my surprise, he lowered his shoulders in defeat.

That’s a good boy.Lexi now said to him, like she was praising a damn dog, which wasn’t settling well with my wolf or me.

Honestly, I don’t know if it was her metaphor or if it was the way she was speaking to my mate, but it didn’t really matter which one it was, because either way, the bitch needed to be put in her place. Stepping in front of Chase, I let out a low growl, warning Lexi that she had better tread lightly, or else I was going to show her what a cat fight truly was, because I still owed her one from the little stunt she had pulled back in West Virginia.

But my warning growl somehow had a different effect on Lexi, causing her eyes to curiously scan my body until they landed on the crook of my neck. Her eyes now widened as she stared at Cash’s mark, as if she was seeing it for the first time.

“You marked her?Lexi snarled at Chase, like she was shocked that he had done so, but little did she know, we had a better chance of Hell freezing over.

My mouth barely open to correct her, before Chase let out the growl that he had been holding back. In one swift motion, Chase grabbed hold of my hand, protectively pulling me behind him and away from her eyes, while trying to show his Alpha dominance

Unfortunately, Lexi wasn’t a wolf, and I realized that our Alpha growls held no power over her Instead, it was all about the paychecks, and whoever was signing her checks was the one that she was listening to.

But her response wasn’t exactly what I was focused on, as I was more curious about the way Chase was possessively acting around me all of a sudden. A part of me wanted to believe that he was somehow feeling jealous that Cash had marked me, but there was another part

of me that didn’t give two shits, because I honestly was having whiplash with his mood swings tonight.

Besides that, he had lost my trust, not because of what he had done, but because he couldn’t come clean to me. It was clear that he had remorse, and if he had just admitted his guilt, then the two of us wouldn’t still be standing here.

Honestly, I knew why he had done it, and if I was in his shoes, I may have done the same thing to save my own family, if they were still alive. Eventually, I would have seen the wrong in my doings, and I probably would have done exactly what he did. But unlike him, I would have held myself accountable, admitting to him that I was wrong.

I honestly wonder how he was able to stare me straight in the eyes and not break from all the guilt and remorse that I know I would have been feeling. Just the guilt alone would have to have been unbearable, and it would have ultimately led me to confess, because it would have been eating me alive with each second that passed by seeing the pain in his eyes from what I had done.

Unfortunately, I just sometimes wonder if Chase even has a conscious, or if he just feels like he doesn’t owe me an explanation. But I guess I will never know if that’s the case, because by the looks of things, I was going to be meeting the person that had hired Lexi all those years ago to watch over me.

Peering around Chase’s massive right arm, my eyes landed on Lexi, wondering if she was going to try and continue to push Chase to his breaking point, before she took me and handed me over to her employer. Her eyes instantly found mine, and, honestly, I could have sworn she winked at me, before she continued to taunt Chase by saying, Oops, my bad. I guess you’re not wolf enough.

My eyes narrowed as I stared at her, wondering what the hell she was now up to, but then I realized, even though the two of us weren’t really friends, per se, she still had been acting as herself all those years. I now knew what she was up to, especially when I felt Chase’s hand tighten around my own, telling me that she was trying to get him to break.

As her eyes lowered to his crouch, ending her punch line, she began to laugh hysterically, adding fuel to the fire. As she continued to laugh, it began to sound more like a cackle, echoing through the forest, taunting Chase even more than she already had.

It was clear now to me that she was trying to break through that rough barrier that he had put up, something I had obviously failed at doing. But somehow, she was doing a better job than I had done, as it looked as if a crack was forming in it.

Honestly, I didn’t know why she was doing this, other than she was doing it for her own shits and giggles, because why else would she want to break down Chase? But as I stood there

mostly hidden behind Chase, with his hand firmly holding onto mine for dear life, it hit me like a ton of bricks that she wasn’t doing this for herself, but for me.
