Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 40

Chapter 24-2

“Why does it matter what color they were?” I asked her, with a confused look on my face, as the tear were once threatening to spill from my eyes pulled back, as I wondered if Mazie knew something ab

this monster.

“It could help us identify what kind of animal tried to attack you.” She told me, as she shifted her pos

telling me that she was now nervous about me asking questions, and I had to wonder if she knew m

than she was letting on to.

I stared at her for a moment, deciding whether I should tell her the truth, but something in my gut wa telling me that she did know more than what she was telling me, and that maybe my mother and I we

the only two that had seen this thing over the years.

With my eyes glued to Mazie’s face, wanting to see her response, I finally said to her, “They were red.”

A look of recognition filled Mazie’s eyes, telling me that she knew something about the monster that attacked me, making me quickly say to her, “You know what that thing was, that tried to attack me.”

Mazie shot up from the bed, turning away from me, making me get to my feet, as I threw the pillow on

the bed, now feeling like I didn’t need the security of it, because I wasn’t feeling like I was losing my mi

anymore. It was clear that Mazie knew something, and I needed to find out what she was keeping from

“Mazie, please tell me that you know what this thing was that was in the locker room with me.” I said to

her, as I reached for her shoulder, making her turn around to look at me.

Mazie shook her head, as she hesitated to say something, but then she finally said to me, “It’s not my

place to tell you, but you’re not crazy, and that thing really does exist.”

“Then whose place is it to tell me?” I asked her before I thought about the story my grandmother had tol

me about my mother and Ethan. “Is it Evan’s place to tell me, or maybe Chance’s, Cash’s of Chase’s?

Mazie’s eyes widened as I said their names, letting me know that I was on to something, but then she asked me, “Why would you think it would be their place to tell you?” Making me realize’t shouldn’t have said anything to her, because now I was going to have to tell her about my mother

Sitting Mazie down on the bed, I began to tell her what my grandmother had told me earlier, and i was shocked by Mazie’s reaction. It wasn’t what I was expecting from her, as I thought she might think that my mother and I were both nuts, but it didn’t seem that way Instead, Mazie hung onto every word I said, as if she understood what was happening, making me wonder if this town had secrets that outsiders like me

didn’t know about

Hell, for all I knew, they could sacrifice virgins to this monster on a full moon, as a ritual to keep it at bay, but I had a feeling that wasn’t the case. What I couldn’t understand, though, was why it had shown itself to my mother and then to me, all these years apart, and if it had something to do with Ethan’s death.

Wondering if Mazie knew, I asked her, “Do you by chance know if this thing had something to do with Ethan’s death?”

Mazie shook her head, before she said to me, “That was before my time, and the elders of the town don’t

speak of his death. I knew Evan was a twin, and I knew that his twin had passed, but I didn’t know that

your mother was a part of their lives.”

“1

guess

this town is full of secrets.” I told her as I stood from my bed, moving to my backpack to retrieve my phone, hoping that I could find something on the web about Ethan’s death, but as I retrieved my phone and opened it, I realized that my photos were open. A picture of Jacob and me was displayed on the screen, and I knew I hadn’t opened my photos since the accident, too afraid to see the last moments of my parents and I together.

Turning back to Mazie, I held my phone in the air, as I asked her, “Did you open my phone up?”
