Chase’s POV
Goddess, I hadn’t even noticed Raven’s sweet aroma until I slightly pried the bathroom door open, allowing it to seep through the small crack right into my nostrils. It only took a split second for my Alpha wolf to fully awaken, convinced it was finally time for us to claim our
mate.
Damn it, of all the times this could happen, now wasn’t it. It wasn’t because I didn’t want her, but because I had so much to confess and forgiveness to ask for, before I felt like I was worthy of her. All this time, I had been pushing her away, trying to avoid the connection between us, all for what?
The truth was that I was scared. Scared to allow myself to love someone as much as I loved my mother, only to have her stripped from me. I was broken goods, and everyone in my family knew that. That’s why I thought that I had to be the one to turn her over, but now, I know that my heart was still beating, even if it was shattered. I had truly made a mess of all of this, and now that damn witch had us locked inside this room, with no way to escape, forcing me to man up to all my mistakes and fears.
With all my senses now on overdrive, I heard the slightest of a whimper come from behind the door, before I could tell that Raven had fallen to the floor in pain. All rationality at that moment went out the window, as I called out to her demanding she let me in, while I pushed cautiously onto the door, knowing that she was directly behind it.
As if her body could no longer fight off her heat, she gave in, moving to the side to allow the door to swing open enough so that I could gain access to her. But as I stepped into the small bathroom, my heart did a different kind of shattering.
Raven’s naked petite body laid slumped against the wall, as beads of sweat coated every inch of her delicate exposed flesh. Instinctively, I kneeled by her side, placing the back of my hand against her forehead. Raven hissed as soon as my flesh touched hers, like I had somehow burned her, making me retract my hand, worried that I had hurt her.
Below her breath, I could barely hear her saying, “Don’t touch me.” As if she was trying to put up one last stance to the pull of her heat, making me believe that she didn’t want me to help
her
But Raven was more like me than she wanted to admit. Both of us had been through so much, losing the people that we loved, that we were both good at pushing people away, in fear of getting too close
Chapter 193 1
Thankfully though, my brothers were able to break through those barriers with her, at least giving her someone to lean on. Unfortunately, it was clear that those barriers still existed against me, and I honestly didn’t blame her for that, but right now, I wasn’t going to allow them to stand in my way of helping her.
“Damn it, Raven, you’re burning up, and you need my help to survive this.” I informed her as if it was a fact, which right now by the looks of things it was.
Staring at her, my heart continued to shatter, because I knew if one of my brothers were here, she would allow them to help her. Unfortunately, I had ruined what little trust she had left for me today, especially when I asked her if she trusted me. Ultimately, that led to her putting faith where it didn’t deserve to be, because I had disappointed her once again.
Seeing that she was clearly rejecting my proposal, I got to my feet and quickly scanned the room, before I moved to the small shower, turning the faucet to as cold as I could comfortably bear it.
Without another moment of hesitation, I turned back to face Raven and began to undress, but as I pulled my shirt over my head, Raven’s eyes widened, as she asked through her pain, Chase, what are you doing?”
