Chapter 193-2
Dropping my shirt on the floor between us, just like she had done moments ago with her little striptease show, I moved my hands to the button of my pants, undoing them, before I began to also slide them off, while replying to her with, “What does it look like I am doing? You are clearly in heat, and you need one of your mates to help you through this. Seeing that I am the only one here, that means you are unfortunately stuck with me. Sorry about your luck.”
A look of fear instantly washed over her eyes, and I realized that she was scared of what I might do to her in her weakened state, but I can assure her that I would never push myself on someone that doesn’t want me.
Moving back to her side, I kneeled on one knee before scooping her frail body up into my arms. “Chase, please don’t.” Softly whispered from her lips now, as her head leaned into the crook of my neck for support.
Once again, my heart shattered a bit more, as her hand now softly rested against my chest, right over my heart. Between hearing her plead for me not to claim her and her touch, I honestly didn’t know which one was worse. But as much as it hurt, I knew that I deserved it.
Luckily for her, she was getting her wish, because I wasn’t going to cross that line with her knowing that she didn’t accept me as her mate. But she needed to accept the fact that I was still bound to her, and I would be damned if I allowed her to suffer through this alone, just because I was a jackass.
As I moved towards the shower, I stared down at her in my arms, realizing how badly I had messed up things between the two of us to the point that even if I confessed my sins and betrayals to her, she would probably never forgive me. So, for now, I needed to play the role I had been playing with her all this time as the disconnected mate, not willing to accept her, so that she would at least let me help her.
With her flesh searing my own flesh, I didn’t even hesitate for a second, as I stepped into the small shower enclosure with Raven safely in my arms. Once again, a hiss came from her lips, as her hold tightened around me, before I felt her body ease up, while the cold water began to soothe the pain away.
Steam now rose from both of our flesh, filling the room like a sauna. My temperature quickly began to drop, and the cold water started to sting at my flesh, but I remained standing there under its flow, holding Raven’s still heated body beneath it.
Seeing that this wasn’t completely working, as Raven’s flesh still seared my own where it was touching, I closed my eyes and began to pray to the Moon Goddess to see Raven through her pain, since I was a failure of a mate to her.
Chapter 1932
That prayer barely left my thoughts, before I felt Raven’s hand gently touching my chin. Opening my eyes, I gazed down at her, seeing her hooded eyes staring back at me full of tears, making me hate myself even more than I already do, knowing that her pain ultimately stemmed from me.
My eyes slowly began to redden, while warm liquid filled to the brim of my lids, as I forced myself to look right into her eyes, taking responsibility for her pain. But before a single tear could fall from the corner of my eyes, I tried to turn my head away from her gaze, not wanting her to see how this situation was affecting me.
Raven though, well, she had other plans, as her gentle grip on my chin tightened, holding my head right in its place. Not able to control my tears, they began to seep slowly down my cheeks, and for the first time I was exposing my true self to her.
Raven’s head lifted slowly from my chest, as her hand held my chin steady in its place, while her other hand cautiously moved to my face, softly wiping away my tears. Her gaze was an open book, as I could see sympathy in her heart towards me, but I didn’t deserve an ounce of it, especially from her.
But it was clear that Raven thought differently, as she softly whispered to me, “I see you.”
