Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 398

Chapter 196-1

Raven’s POV

Now dressed, I stood in the middle of the bedroom, blankly staring at Jacob, in total disbelief, hearing for the first time that my grandfather was alive and well. All this time, he had been watching over my mother and me from afar, planting individuals in our lives to protect us, knowing that one day that his brothers and their offspring would come for us.

Unfortunately, Jacob only knew the little bits and pieces that Lexi had confessed to him to gain his trust, leaving so many of my questions unanswered. But there was one question that I thought he might know the answer to, and that was, Does Chase know about all of this?Jacob nodded his head before he said to me, I assume, since he is with your grandfather at this very moment, designing a plan of attack against the rogues to run them out of Beaumont for good. I overheard them speaking about wanting to ensure your safety and your future offspring.

Offspring. That simple word took me by surprise, as I looked down at my flat abdomen, realizing that I hadn’t used an ounce of protection with either of the brothers.

If I was being honest, a part of me was now scared, because I wasn’t quite ready just yet to become a mother. Plus, with everyone out to kill me, there was no way that I wanted to bring a child into this world knowing that my fate would be theirs too.

Earth to Raven.Jacob says, waving his hands in front of my face, bringing me back to the present, before he took my hands into his, giving them a gentle squeeze while he continues to say to me, Believe it or not, Chase isn’t the bad guy in all of this. If anything, I think he made the right choice to bring you here. As for Lexi, you two really need to sit down and have a hearttoheart talk. I think maybe both of us misjudged her loyalty and friendship before knowing all the facts.

I stared into Jacob’s eyes as the corners of my lips slowly crept into a soft smile, realizing the why behind Jacob being here now. Lexi knew how deep my faith and trust ran in him, that she realized the only way she was getting through to me was through the bond of our friendship.

Nodding my head, I agreed to hear her out, but only because Jacob made a good point. Neither one of us had all the facts behind how she became a part of our lives, and I guess that I needed to give her the benefit of the doubt, that at some point in time during her employment by my grandfather, that it became more than just a job to her

Hearing someone behind me clearing their throat, I turned to see Lexi standing in the door

frame, and for a moment, I wondered how much of Jacob’s and my conversation that she had heard, but then I realized that it really didn’t matter. Jacob had done what she had brought him here to do, opening the line of communication between her and me, but now it was up to her to convince me that I should allow her back into my circle of trust.

To my surprise, Lexi doesn’t jump on her chance to clear the air between us at this moment, but instead just says blandly to me, I see you’re dressed, your host is waiting. Before she turns and steps out of the room, giving me her back as if it pained her to face me.

My eyebrows furrowed as I stared at her for a second, wondering where suddenly her cockiness disappeared to, but then I realized that she must have overheard Jacob and I speaking. The smirk that was normally planted on her face was gone, and in its place her lips remained a stiffened straight line.

Other than anger and rage, I honestly don’t think I ever remember Lexi showing her feelings, leading me to believe that she was having a hard time right now dealing with the emotions she was trying to obviously keep bottled up inside of her. A part of me wanted to reach out to her and ask her to come clean to me, so that we could put this all behind us, but the stubborn side of me thought that it should be her that made the first move.
