Chapter 196-2
Jesus, why did this have to be so damn hard? We were friends for Christ’s sake, or at least I thought that we were. Seeing that I too was having my own issues, Jacob grabbed me by the hand once again, giving it a gentle squeeze to let me know he was there for me, before he tugged gently on it, guiding me towards the open door.
For a moment, I thought that Lexi was going to wait until we were by her side, but as soon as we reached the doorway, she began to walk down the long broad hallway towards a massive staircase. My eyes wandered as I held on tightly to Jacob’s hand, wondering where the hell we were, because from what I could see, we looked like we were in some kind of modern–day castle.
As we neared the staircase, I began to hear muffled voices coming from the floors below, but it wasn’t until we made it to the top step did I see who they were coming from. Freezing at the top of the stairs, I looked down the grand staircase to a decent–sized group of men and women all dressed in similar black attire to the outfit that Lexi had brought for me to wear.
Lost in conversation, not a single one of them noticed our presence. That was until I took my first step. As if their attention had been demanded by me, their head snapped up in my direction, and I instantly froze once again, as I could have sworn I saw a flash of red in each and every one of their eyes.
Letting out a gasp, I let go of Jacob’s hand, as I stood there now standing alone on the top step, staring down at the dozens of eyes silently staring back at me. But their silence only lasted for a few seconds before I watched all their eyes widen.
Before I knew what was happening, they simultaneously took a knee, while they lowered their heads, placing their right fists over their hearts. In unison, they all said, “Our Princess.”
My eyes moved behind me, thinking that someone else had to be standing there, but there was not a soul in sight. Turning back, I looked at Jacob, silently questioning him, before my eyes moved to Lexi, who had one of her many smirks back on her face, as she finally broke her silence by saying, “It seems they recognize you.”
“Me?” I asked, as I moved to point to myself, while my eyes moved back to all the men and women below us still on their knees.
Honestly, I couldn’t fathom why on Earth these rogues would be calling me their princess, as I was nothing but an orphan. But that thought quickly dispersed when something else caught my attention from below.
Out of nowhere, Chase had appeared wearing the same kind of black outfit as the rest of us,

making me wonder if this damn place was more like some underground cult than a pack. Regardless, my eyes were now glued on him, as I watched him make his way to the bottom of the stairs, while his own eyes remained fixated on mine.
When he reached the bottom step, he stopped and extended his hand in my direction, as if he was silently asking me to join him. I hesitated for a second, as my eyes veered from his, scanning the room, but my eyes ultimately moved back to him, realizing that there was no safer place here than in his arms.
Swallowing down what little fears still remained in me, I began to descend the stairs, as I kept my eyes on the prize waiting at the bottom. Shockingly, when I was within Chase’s reach, he took my hand into his, guiding me down the last few steps.
Keeping our hands together in the air between us, he turned our bodies to face those that were kneeling, as if he was presenting me to them in some kind of formal way. For a moment, I wondered where all this formality had come from, especially with him, but then my eyes made their way past the rogues to a man that was sitting on a throne.
It didn’t take long for the man’s eyes to connect with my own, and when they did, I watched a fire come to life within them. Swallowing hard, I tightened my grip on Chase’s hand, as I realized that this man sitting on the throne was no other than my grandfather.
