Chapter 197

Raven’s POV

Standing at the foot of my grandfather’s throne, I stared up at him, not only captivated by the flickering flames in his eyes but also mesmerized by their familiarity. It was as if I was looking into my mother’s eyes once again, feeling a connection that I thought that I had lost forever.

Neither my grandfather nor I said a single word as we continued to awkwardly stare at each other, while everyone else in the room remained eerily silent. Weirdly as it may sound, I think we both were comparing each other’s features to my mother’s, because the way my grandfather was now staring at me, I could almost feel an emotional pain that was now present in his eyes.

As if he noticed that I could sense his emotions, he swallowed hard, trying to wash them away, but even by doing so, I could hear the remembrance of the pain in his voice when he finally says to me, You are a spitting image of her.

A soft smile crept onto my face, knowing that my mother’s memory lived on in me, but that smile quickly faltered when I realized that this man sitting in front of me was the last living relative of mine. Realizing this only brought back memories of losing my parents and then my grandmother, with both times feeling like I was left alone in this world, but once again, fate had other plans for me.

There was a part of me that was ecstatic about finding out that he was alive, but there was another part of me that was very much intimidated and scared. I had come to terms with the fact that I had a wolf inside of me and that I was mated to three Alpha brothers, but finding out that I am the hidden granddaughter of a Rogue King, well, that just put the icing of disbelief right on the cake for me.

Awkward silence once again fell between us, as I just stood there staring at him with so many questions running through my head, but I found myself too nervous to ask them. Noticing that I hadn’t attempted to respond to him, he made another feeble attempt to get me to speak by asking me the simplest of questions, Was your room to your liking?”

My eyes strayed from him, looking over at Lexi, who was standing with her head lowered, not daring to look up at me. This was so out of her character, but then I realized she was in the presence of her employer, reminding me that I had been kept here last night not of my own freewill

With my eyes still on Lexi, daring her to look up, I cleared my throat before finally answering my grandfather with the sly remark. The accommodations were quite restricted, but I guess

that is assumed when you are kept here against your will.

Chase’s hand instantly tightened around mine, just enough to let me know that he thought I may have overstepped with what I had said, but I didn’t feel I did. I had agreed to hear both Lexi and my grandfather out, but they had some explaining to do if they planned on making things right between us, which I feel needed to be done first. After everything that had happened, I would be damned if I was just going to sweep it all under the bridge without a reasonable explanation.

Restricting, you do say.My grandfather said, grabbing Lexi’s attention just enough, that she raised her head to look at him, right before his eyes narrowed and began to glow a brilliant

red.

Instantly, I could feel a shift in the room that could only be explained as a rush of power or authority. A whimper of pain from Lexi followed that shift, before I watched her fall to her knees, as if she was about to beg for her life. In all the years I had known Lexi, there had been nothing that the girl had feared, but right now, I could see that she was terrified of my grandfather.

As her body began to tremble, I could see the dread in her eyes, telling me that she had more than enough of whatever this was my grandfather was doing to her. Without thinking, I let go of Chase’s hand and stepped in front of her, blocking my grandfather’s line of view to her, willing to accept the pain on her behalf, since I was the one that had caused his anger towards her.

But as I stood in front of her, shielding her from my grandfather’s gaze, I realized that his glowing red eyes had little to no effect on me. If anything, they looked creepy as hell and reminded me of the rogues that attacked me, but other than that, I honestly didn’t know what Lexi had, bending a knee to him.

It wasn’t until his glowing red eyes turned to me, and for a split second I could have sworn I felt a taste of his power, but he was quick to turn away from me. Honestly, I don’t know if it was the fact that he didn’t want to hurt me, or if it was because he wanted to shield me from the darkness inside of him, but either way, it was too late, because I had already seen enough.

He had shown me in just a few seconds what he truly was, and I honestly could now see why my mother had run. If she had seen a glimpse of what I had just seen, there was no doubt in my mind that she didn’t want anything to do with his world, as the little bit of darkness! could sense in him was enough to raise the hair on my arms.

But unfortunately, unlike my mother, I had accepted what I was, and at this point there was no way in hell I could run, even if I wanted to
