Chapter 200-1

Raven’s POV

What exactly is the plan then?I asked, changing the subject, deciding that Lexi had said enough to suffice my growing curiosity for now, but it was something that just her and I would have to circle back to in the future once all of this was settled and done.

Eager to answer my question, Chase leaned forward and cleared his throat, taking the floor quickly as if he was happy about the change in subject. The Rogue Alpha King and I have been in deliberations all morning over what the right means of attack is. With the Alpha rogues thinking that you are dead, they have fallen back and eased up their forces. We are in agreement that now is the time to strike them, while they are celebrating their failed victory.

I sat speechless in my seat, staring up at Chase, impressed by the way he spoke, but also shocked. He had led me this whole time to believe that he had no desire or abilities to lead a pack, but that clearly was a misconception on my behalf. I now could see that he was more than capable of running anything, as long as he had the will and desire to, and right now, keeping me alive was giving him a reason to lead.

Reaching, I took his hand into mine, giving it a slight squeeze, wanting him to know how grateful I was that he not only opened his heart up to me last night, but that he was becoming a true leader. If his brothers and father could only hear him now, I was sure that they would all be proud of him.

But with that thought, something he had said finally registered in my head, and I found myself slowly slipping my hand from his as I asked, Are the rogue Alphas the only ones that think I am dead?

I waited a few seconds, giving him a chance to answer me, but when he turned his head to look at Lexi, I found myself doing the same thing, wondering why he was looking at her for

answers.

Nonono, I whispered under my breath, shaking my head as I moved to get to my feet, realizing that the rogue Alphas weren’t the only ones to think that I had perished in that car accident.

Chase reached out for me, while he guiltily whispered out my name below his breath, knowing damn straight that he had severely messed up. It especially hit him when I batted his arm away from me, before taking a step back from the table while I said in disbelief to him, I can’t believe you could do this to your brothers.

The look of pain now filled Chase’s eyes, before he lowered his head, knowing how

disappointed I was now with him. It was crazy how, just a second ago, I had been thinking how proud his family would have been of him, but here I was retracting that thought before it could fully form.

It had to be done.Lexi finally said defensively, as if she was trying to defend Chase and his actions, but I was totally in disagreement with them.

If anyone here knew the freshness of the pain of losing someone you love and care about, it was me. I could only imagine what Chance and Cash were going through right now, thinking that they had lost me. Chance was probably blaming himself for the accident, where Cash was for sure in a state of morning, since we had just accepted each other just days ago as

mates.

Gritting my teeth together, I said to them both, Forgive me if I think differently, but then, of course, neither of you care about anybody else other than yourselves.

My words were harsh, and I regretted saying them as soon as they slithered from my tongue, but I knew that I couldn’t take them back even if I wanted to, because the look on Chase’s face told me I had just driven a knife straight through his heart.

Chase…” I softly said as I reached out for him, but it was his turn to recoil from me, making my hand fall to my side, as tears began to pool in my eyes, feeling the pain I had just caused him through our bond.
