Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 407

Chapter 202

Raven’s POV

That’s it. Close your eyes and take long, steady breaths while you slowly count to tenThen focus on the sound of your heartbeat, muting out everything else around you

I did as he said, afraid to hesitate, worried that this darkness that he spoke of was the same darkness that I had seen in my grandfather. But as I followed his instructions to the tee, I realized that this method was the same damn method that had been taught to me at the juvenile mental institution for my panic attacks, after the car crash.

It had been the only method that had worked to subdue the attacks that had abruptly come on after the death of my parents. But right now, as I listen to my heart steadily beating in my chest, I was questioning if those attacks were more than just a normal human panic attack.

Feeling like I no longer wanted to rip my skin off, I slowly opened my eyes, wanting to finally be able to put a human face with the beast that had haunted my dreams at night. But as I moved to turn to face my worst nightmare, that, weirdly enough, just helped me through my worst attack ever, I froze.

LiamShakingly whispered from my lips, I was beyond shocked to see him here. But at this point, after everything else I had learned, was I really that shocked?

Jesus, had everyone from my past before and after the accident been inputted by my damn grandfather? My blood instantly began to boil, wondering if there was anyone that I could really trust other than Jacob from my past.

Raising my hand, I felt like slapping Liam, but instead, I resisted and just pointed my finger straight into his chest, before I began to curse him out. Seriously Liam, you’re in on this too? Were any of my damn friends really my friends?

Liam’s eyebrows furrowed as he looked down at me, like he was totally lost with what I had just said to him, but playing stupid wasn’t going to work on me. It was clear that he was one of my grandfather’s people and there was no doubt in my mind that my grandfather had sent him to the institution to keep an eye on me while I was there, since Lexi was clearly already certified crazy.

Liam’s response though, wasn’t what I had expected to come from him. Instead of admitting what I had assumed, he raised his hands in the air, taking a step back from me, before he said, Raven, I can explain, but it’s not safe here. You need to come with me.

What?I asked, confused as hell, as I took my own step back from him, wondering why someone that worked for my grandfather would say that it was unsafe here for me.

I now had a million different scenarios running through my head, but in the end, they all led me to the same conclusion that he wasn’t under my grandfather’s employment. But if Liam wasn’t working for my grandfather, then why was he here now?

I was just about to question him when a loud howl rang out, echoing through the garden like a warning siren that my grandfather’s men were coming.

Knowing that his time with me had run out, Liam stepped towards me, grabbing hold of my hand, as he began to plead with me to leave with him. For a moment, I considered taking him up on his offer, because I wanted to free myself from this place so that I could get back to Beaumont to Chance and Cash.

But as I looked back at my grandfather’s estate, I knew I couldn’t leave, even if I wanted to break free of this place right now. Chase was still here somewhere on the grounds, and before I left, I needed to make mends with him.

I can’t leave. Plus, Liam, I honestly don’t know if I can trust you.I confessed to him, as I pulled my hand from his, taking a few steps back to put some space between us.

Liam stared at me, shocked by my confession, but in reality, what did he expect? Plus, it wasn’t like we had a longterm friendship.

I had only met Liam on my second day after being transferred to the institution, and at first, I honestly wanted nothing to do with him or anyone else, for that matter. But Liam didn’t give up on me, and became persistently annoying, which eventually broke through the emotional barriers I had put up.

Looking back now, I have to wonder if that persistence was because someone other than my grandfather had sent him, to try and off me before I could even step foot in Beaumont. But if that was the case, then Liam had epically failed at his task, making me wonder if that was the reason that he had followed me there and now here.

Unfortunately, I wasn’t going to get the chance to ask him that, because the sound of heavy paws pounding on the earth’s surface now echoed in the air, as I was sure my grandfather’s men were on their way here. Liam’s head turned in the direction that they were coming from for a second, like he was contemplating something before he turned his attention back to

  1. me.

With the look of worry and dread in his eyes, he says to me, “There is a river not too far from here. If you follow the path south of the garden, you will find the bend in the river. Meet me there tomorrow, and I will explain everything to you.

He waited a second for me to give him an answer, but the truth was, I honestly didn’t have one for him, because at this point, I didn’t know who the hell I could trust. Besides that, 1

wasn’t sure who he even was, since it was now apparent that he wasn’t one of my grandfather’s men.

Knowing that our time was running out, as the wolves were closing in on our location, Liam decided to leave me with one last thought. I will wait there until the moon is at its highest peak. If you decide against coming, I wish you the best of luck.

With that, Liam gave me one last pleading look, before he stepped away from me, shifting into his massive black wolf. His wolf’s glowing red eyes now stared back at me, but I no longer was afraid, as I now knew who the man was behind the beast that I once feared.

Liam’s wolf lowered his head at me as if to give me his final goodbye, before he took off towards the tree line, just in the nick of time to avoid my grandfather’s men.

As the wolves began to surround me, I stared off into the darkness of the night, wondering what exactly it was that Liam had to say to me, as I now found myself intrigued, especially since it sounded as if he wasn’t going to pursue me after tomorrow night.
