Chapter 204
Chase’s POV
It only took a fraction of the time before I was back on the Rogue Alpha King’s lands, now determined to speak to him about amending our agreement, after not seeing, but also feeling the pain, my brothers were in. I knew that I had agreed to his terms and understood that the rogues had to be convinced of Raven’s death, but it was clear that the rogues had completely
retreated.
With my mind set on making things right, I headed straight towards the estate but found myself stopping in the south side of the garden, as the night’s cool breeze carried the familiar scent of my mate straight to me. My eyes wandered between the estate and the direction the breeze was coming from, torn between my urges to see Raven and speaking to her grandfather first. But then the breeze carried more than just her scent, as the faintest of a whimper tickled my ears, forcing my feet to move in the direction that it had come from.
Rounding the bend toward the rose garden, I paused, when my eyes landed on a man’s silhouette standing directly behind Raven. It took all I had at that moment to hold back my wolf, as both of us started to see red, watching him lean down and whisper into our mate’s
ear.
I was just about to lose control when Raven spun around, and I watched the expression on her face turn from complete fear to recognition, making me take a step back behind the tall evergreen bush, as my curiosity was now getting the best of me of whom this man was. The name “Liam” whispered breathlessly from Raven’s lips, stirring a fire inside of me from hearing another man’s name slipping from my mate’s lips, but that fire was short–lived when I watched her raise her hand to him. At first, I thought she was going to bitch slap him, but it looked like she had changed her mind at the last minute, resorting to pointing her finger right into his chest, while she said to him, “Seriously Liam, you’re in on this too? Were any of my damn friends really my friends?”
“Friends?” My wolf questioned as I did too, wondering if this Liam was another one of her grandfather’s people, that he had enlisted to watch over her in California.
That thought eased both my wolf and I for a second, but that ease was short–lived when I heard him say back to her, “Raven, I can explain, but it’s not safe here. You need to come with me.”
A low growl rumbled in my chest, but before it could escape, a warning howl from the estate grabbed my attention. In the short period of time that I had turned my head away from Raven to see that the patrol was on their way, this Liam character had taken Raven’s hand into his,

like he was going to force her to leave with him.
Once again, I was at war with my wolf, as he wanted to put an end to this right now, but I, on the other hand, was still wanting to let it all play out, because there was something about this Liam that felt off to me. But I honestly didn’t know how much more I could take, seeing another man’s hands on my mate.
Thankfully, Raven ripped her hand from his grasp at that moment, taking a step back, before she says to him, “I can’t leave. Plus, Liam, I honestly don’t know if I can trust you.”
My eyebrows furrowed as I watched Raven closely, and even though she had put distance between them and was refusing his offer, I could tell that a part of her was considering it.
What the bloody hell? I know I had messed up, but here she was willing to give up our mate bond before I could even make my wrongs I had done right.
Liam looked back over his shoulder, and I knew that he heard the Alpha Rogue King’s men closing in on his location, but he wasn’t giving up just yet on his shot with Raven. With desperation in his voice, I heard him asking her to meet him at some damn location outside her grandfather’s estate.
This time though, Raven didn’t respond, and when he told her he would be waiting there until the moon was at its highest peak, she still didn’t say a damn word to him to refuse his latest offer.
Once again, I was seeing red, and this time there was no stopping my wolf from taking over. But as I shifted into my wolf and was about ready to let my presence be known, I realized that I wasn’t the only one that had shifted.
Standing directly in front of Raven was one of the largest pure black Alpha wolves that I had ever seen. Its size put Chance’s wolf to shame, towering at least a hand or two taller than him, making me wonder who this Liam really was.
Before I could even think about intercepting him, his wolf took off like a flash of lightening, heading straight for the tree line, while the Alpha Rogue King’s men began to surround Raven, scoping out the area.
For a second, I thought about chasing after him, forcing him to tell me exactly what he wanted from my mate, but then I realized there was no need, because I knew exactly where he was going to be tomorrow. Deciding now wasn’t the time, and that tomorrow was another day, I revealed myself from around the evergreen bush to Raven, shifting into my human form, right before I pulled her into my arms.
His scent still lingered in the air and on her flesh, and it took all I had in me not to change my mind to chase after him, but when Raven wrapped her arms tightly around me, reciprocating

my affection, I slowly began to calm. Holding her tightly in my arms, I nestled my face in the crook of her neck, taking long deep breaths of her scent to calm my raging wolf.
With chaos unfolding around us with her grandfather’s men, it gave me the opportunity to say something to her, in the hopes that she would be forthcoming with me about Liam. Pulling away, just enough to be able to look in her eyes, I asked her, “Are you okay? I heard there was an intruder.”
Raven blankly stared at me for a moment, and I could see what looked like torment in her eyes, like she was contemplating on telling me about her little visit from her friend. But just when I thought she was going to be honest with me, she gave me a quick nod, before she wrapped her arms tightly back around my neck, burying her head into my chest, as she says, I’m fine Chase, now that you are here.”
I stood there, just holding her in my arms, as part of me stewed, staring in the direction that her male so–called friend had just disappeared in. A part of me still wanted to chase after him, but another part of me said now wasn’t the time, as I had important matters to still
attend to.
But tomorrow was another day, and you could bet your last dollar that I would be at that river’s bend waiting for him.
