Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 418

Chapter 211

Chase’s POV

Thankfully, the attack was just a small party of the enemy’s men sent to test the waters. Of course, they would try and strike now, believing that the king would be incapacitated, thinking that he would be in a state of morning, but little did they know, this was all part of our plan.

Unfortunately, their timing wasn’t the greatest, as I never would have foreseen that I would have been in the middle of a damn dispute with some random rogue Raven had met before me. But regardless of what was left on the table to discuss with Raven and her socalled friend, I still had a job that needed to be done.

Seeing that this rogue would shield her with his own body, I demanded that he take her away, knowing damn straight that he would get her to safety, so that I could focus my attention on the situation at hand. But never would I have imagined in a million years that once he got her to safety, he would return with an army of the Alpha Rogue King’s men in tow.

Without hesitation, this Liam jumped right into the battle, alongside me, taking my flank, alleviating the pressure on my right side so that I could focus my attention to my left. The two of us moved like we were in sync, reminding me of how my brothers and I once were, making me question, once again, exactly who he was.

With Liam by my side, the battle was over before it had even started, leaving the enemy’s men incapacitated at our feet. Covered in blood, the two of us stood in the middle of a pile of corpses, with our chests heaving, as we silently celebrated our small victory.

As my eyes wandered the open field, I began to survey the area, seeing that all the Rogue Alpha King’s men looked to be intact, telling me that we had won this first battle without a single casualty. This was not only a win for the Rogue Alpha King, but also a first win for me, in my quest to protect Raven and my family.

Now that I had assessed the area and had caught my breath, I turned around to face Liam, wanting to finally get to the bottom of who he really is, but as I was about ready to civilly address him, he turned and began to walk away from me.

Wait!I called out to Liam, as I began to make my way over the fallen bodies towards him, but instead of stopping like I had asked him to, he just kept walking towards the tree line.

Leaving the Rogue Alpha King’s men to clean up the mess, I followed Liam into the forest, as I tried to provoke him to stop and talk to me, but everything I said to him to try and rouse him went as if unheard by him. Not giving up, I continued to follow him until he finally came to a halt by the riverbank

Chapter 211

Bending a knee, he began to scrub the blood of our enemies from his flesh, and it wasn’t until his face was washed clean, did he finally say to me, It’s not safe here for Raven. We both know that eventually more rogues will come, and when they do, they will triple their forces and their attempts to take down the Alpha Rogue King, now that they know he is weak.

My eyes narrowed as I glared at him, knowing that he was right about more rogues coming, but as for the Alpha Rogue King being weak, I wondered how he knew. From what I had gathered since I arrived, Raven’s grandfather had surrounded himself with powerful beings, allowing him to prevail, while he masked his failing health.

He knew that his people would only continue to live their peaceful lives here on the estate if he found someone strong enough to be his successor, and that was when we struck a deal. My life, for the lives of those that I love, I thought was a small price to pay, but hearing Liam say that it wasn’t safe here for Raven, I also knew that he was right about that too.

The fact was there wasn’t a single place on this planet that she would be safe, if the rogues got wind that she was still alive, but I had convinced myself that her being here with me behind her grandfather’s massive walls was the safest place for her to be.

Curious, I decided to hear Liam out, wanting to know what his recommendation was, by asking him, So, where do you propose is safe for her?

Splashing his face one last time, Liam stood to his full height, towering over me like a giant, before he looked down at me and said, With me.

Instantly, a low growl rumbled from my chest, as my wolf wasn’t happy hearing another male pretty much stating his claim on our mate. Sharing with my brothers was one thing, but having an outsider thinking that he could just come in and swoop my mate up and ride into the sunset with her was another.

Through my gritted teeth, I once again stated my claim on Raven to him, by saying, She is my mate.

Liam’s eyes narrowed at me, as he slowly leaned down towards my face, right before he said to me, Then start acting like you’re her mate, by putting her safety above all else.

I realized to him that it looked like I wasn’t putting Raven first, but the truth was I was, and that was how I had gotten myself into this mess in the first place. Raven’s grandfather had convinced me that with his men behind me, not a hair on her head would ever be touched. Thus far, since she had been here at the estate, that promise had been kept.

Shaking my head at him, I grind my teeth together, pissed that he would assume that I was failing Raven as her mate, when, in fact, I had given up everything, including my family and my pack to protect her. I was just about ready to correct him, when out of nowhere one of the

Without waiting to hear another word from his mouth, Liam and I turned to look at each other, before we shifted into our wolves, taking off in a panic back towards the estate. My mind was now racing a mile a minute, not knowing what the hell was waiting for us. All I could think about on the run back was that Liam was right and that I had failed to protect

Raven as my mate.

But as we shifted back into our human form, racing up the grand staircase side by side, we both came to a halt when we saw Raven standing at the end of the hallway. Seeing her like this, I realized it was far worse than I could have imagined.

With Raven’s glowing red eyes staring motionlessly straight through us, Liam says under his breath, Dear God, we are too late.
