Chapter 214-1

Chase’s POV

The room froze in awkward silence, as the Alpha Rogue King stood in the middle of the room, with his eyes completely glued to Liam. Lexi and I just stared between the two, while Liam moved to stand, facing the man that had fathered his mother.

The sound of the worn leather beneath the Alpha Rogue King’s grip finally broke the silence, as I watched his hand tighten around the handle of his cane. Unsteady on his feet, he did his best not to implicate his inevitably decreasing health, as he stood in front of his own flesh and blood, and the rightful heir to succeed him.

But his legs weren’t the only things right now that were unsteady, as he finally broke his silence with a shaky voice, “How is this possible? I was told that my Carla miscarried. I can’t believe she hid you all these years from me.”

For the first time since I had met the Alpha Rogue King, I could see a glimpse of compassion, something he hadn’t even shown his own granddaughter since I brought her here. It honestly now had me questioning his true intentions, since it was clear that he could so easily toss us to the side for something he thought was shinier in his eyes, but I wasn’t so sure how Liam was going to perceive him.

With that, my eyes instantly moved to Liam, worried about how the Alpha Rogue King’s words would affect him, especially with him casually mentioning his mother. But shockingly enough, Liam stood with his chin held high to his grandfather, not wanting to show the slightest sign of weakness to him.

Just like myself, I was sure that the years of his mother’s absence had grown his heart cold and shielded, and right now, by the looks of things, that was exactly what he was doing, because the Liam that had just been forthcoming with his past was now gone.

In his place, stood the Liam that I had met on the trail earlier today. The one that showed no fear and was clever with his words. “You must have been misinformed. My mother didn’t miscarry. She just threw me away in fear that I would turn out like you. But I can assure you that isn’t the case.”

Instantly, the air in the room shifted, and the look of compassion that was once on the Rogue Alpha King’s face dwindled away, as his lips pulled into a straight line, while his eyes narrowed as he looked straight at Liam. Picking his cane up a few inches off the floor, he slammed the ferrule so hard against the hardwood floorboards that I thought I heard it crack, before he said to Liam, “How dare you talk to me with such disrespect. I am your elder and your king.”

Chapter 214-1

Liam let out a huff as he turned his head to look in my direction, just as I felt the bed move slightly. Turning, I noticed that Raven was finally coming through, diverting my attention to her. But even though I was moving to help Raven come to, I cautiously kept watch of the duel, unfolding only feet away from the bed.

Seeing that I had Raven, Liam turned his attention back to his grandfather, stepping forward until he was about toe to toe with him. Now hovering over his grandfather’s failing structure by a good couple of inches, Liam looked down upon his grandfather, letting out one hell of a low growl, that almost made the Alpha Rogue King lose his balance. But Lexi was quick to move to his side, catching him, right before he could fall, as he now stared in Lexi’s arms at Liam with widened eyes.

Immediately, the Alpha king tried to save face, tossing Lexi onto the hardwood floor away from him, like he had no regard for her and her safety, even though I had watched her time and time again come to his aide, even after clearly being mistreated by him.

Liam’s eyes shifted slightly to Lexi, as if he was making sure that she was okay, before he reached out this time, taking his grandfather by the cuff of his shirt. Without blinking, Liam stared down his grandfather, before he said to him through gritted teeth, “My elder you maybe, but my King, never.”
