Chapter 217

Raven’s POV

Even though I wanted to continue to scream out in pain, I sornehow found myself holding it in, as I was no longer listening to the sounds of my bones breaking, but to the sound of whoever’s fists were pounding on the door. Crazy as it may be, that sound now was the only thing that was giving me hope that they were both still alive.

Knowing that there was only one way that Lexi was going to open that door, I did what I knew was necessary and let go of the pain and not fight the shift like Cash had advised me to do. Closing my eyes, I tried to do just that, by completely letting everything go, except for the one thing that I was holding onto, and that was the desperate need I felt to get that damn door open.

Coaching myself to take slow and steady breaths, I found that the pain was slowly starting to dissipate, and in its place, I felt what I could only describe as a million little needles poking at my flesh at the same exact time. Weirdly enough, it didn’t hurt but felt absolutely reviving, but then I felt a loud pop happen from deep within me.

As if a damn bomb detonated inside of me, I felt a powerful surge of what I could only describe as energy rush through me like lightning, before I felt an explosive release of it, jolting my heart for a second, as my body fell forward.

“Woah…” I heard come from Cash’s lips, right before I felt a cool gust of wind flow right through me, instantly simmering out what little fire was left behind.

For a moment, the surrounding air was filled with complete silence, and for a brief second, I allowed myself to take a long exhale, feeling a split moment of relief and peace, something I hadn’t felt in a very long time. Honestly, this feeling was quite the opposite of what I had felt when I had allowed just a part of the darkness to take over. Where the darkness had/consumed, this power was giving, and it felt as if its light was shining on me.

But that moment of feeling at peace only lasted those few seconds, when the realization dawned on me that the one thing I had been holding onto for hope of life behind that door had come to a halt too.

“Jacob, stay with Raven.” Chance commanded, breaking the silence, forcing me to open my eyes just in time to see Jacob rushing down the hallway to my side.

Quickly, he took a knee beside me, before wrapping his arm around me, as I turned my head around to see that the door was finally open. But the door wasn’t open in the sense that Lexi had unlocked it, but that something had busted it right down, as debris began to seep from within the room into the hallway.

I had just caught the tail end of Cash’s figure entering the room, making me want to follow suit to help them, because I was scared of what possibly could have happened to cause this. But as I moved to stand up, I realized something was very off. Holding out my arm, I blinked a few times, as I stared blankly at what I assumed was a white paw.

“Jesus, Mary, and Joseph, I really am a wolf.” I said to myself in complete and utter shock, but what the helt was I expecting? I mean, I knew I was a wolf, but actually seeing my arm as a leg with a paw attached made it even more real than just knowing.

Shaking my head, I pulled my shit together, as I once again moved to try and stand, but Jacob this time

stopped me from doing so, as he tightened his hold around my neck while he said to me, “Raven, just Telax. They got this.”

I was just about ready to protest with him, when the sound of a cough echoed out into the hallway, drawing my eyes back to the opened door. Within the dust and debris, two figures slowly emerged into the hallway, and it only took me a second to realize that it was Cash half carrying Chase.

Not even giving it a thought, I shook Jacob off me, and rushed to Chase’s side, as Cash sat him down against the wall. As if I wasn’t fully in control of my own actions, my wolf began to lick Chase’s face, while my eyes scanned his body for any visible injuries

“What the…” Chase began to say, as he moved to push my wolf away, but when his eyes landed on mine, he froze.

Staring deep into my eyes, I could feel our mate bond fully connecting, as recognition finally crossed his face. “Raven…” Questionably slipped from his lips, before his hands both reached towards me.

Leaning forward, Chase pressed his forehead against mine, as his hands moved to stroke my fur, while he now whispers in my ear, “Thank the Moon Goddess, you are alive.”

Internally, I was tearing up, beyond grateful to see that he was alive, but then his eyes closed, and his hands slipped from me, before I watched his body slump back against the wall.

For a second i began to panic, but then I noticed that his chest was slowly rising and falling, telling me that his body was exhausted from the trauma he had just endured. Seeing that he was okay, I turned my head back towards the open door, praying that Chance would be next to exit with Liam in tow. But as I just stood there staring into the darkness of the room, I began to sense that something was gravely wrong.

I must not have been the only one that was sensing this, because Cash was now moving anxiously towards the door as I heard him saying under his breath to himself, “Come on Chance. You said you’d be right behind me.”

My eyes now were glued to the opening, praying that Chance would show his face at any second. I began to count the seconds passing by, telling myself that if he wasn’t out here in thirty seconds, I was going in. Unfortunately, my prayers went unanswered, and when I reached thirty seconds, I said, “The hell with is and took off towards the door.

Cash didn’t even try to stop me but instead followed hot on my tail. As we made our way into the center of the room, just as the dust and debris were finishing settling, I found it was just the two of us. Frantically, my eyes began searching every single inch of the room, until they landed on the shattered window.

Quickly, my wolf moved across the roorn in one long stride before I noticed the blood on the window seal. As if it was instinct, I knew who this blood belonged to, and I found myself looking out the window searching for any signs of Liam. But the ground beneath was empty, leaving me to wonder where the hell they had all disappeared to.

My wolf at that moment raised her head and let out a howl, as if she was calling out to one of them, while I silently prayed that my grandfather’s darkness didn’t swallow them whole.
