Chapter 218

Raven’s POV

Without warning, my body shifted back into my human state, and as my actual human legs began to give out on me, Cash caught me in just the nick of time.

“Easy now.” Slipped worriedly from his lips, as he lifted my feet right off the floor, carrying my beyond exhausted body to the bed, as I tried to protest with him that we needed to search the grounds at once.

Not listening to me, Cash lowered me to the bed, pulling a blanket up over my naked body, shielding it from Jacob’s eyes, while he said to me, “You need to rest. Your body has gone through a great deal with your first shift.”

Raising my shoulders from the bed, I once again tried to protest to him, but I barely got two words out before one of his fingers was pressed against my lips, stopping me from being able to complete my sentence. My eyes now stared deep into his, silently begging and pleading with him, but I stopped when Cash had a hard time saying to me, “I just got you back. I can’t lose you again.”

My heart at that moment shattered, understanding exactly where he was coming from, as I have borne th pain of losing my parents for the past couple of months, and would do anything to protect them if I could have them back. Slowly, I leaned my head back, trying to calm my nerves, but just like him, I wanted to protect those that I love.

“Hey, did anyone see where Lexi went? I thought she was right behind me.” Jacob said from the doorway, as he looked out into the hallway, but from where I lay, the only person I could see was Chase, who was

now slowly coming to.

If I said that her current absence didn’t bother me, I would be lying, because something was telling me that she knew where everyone had disappeared too. Thinking that the third time was a charm, I leaned forward once again, but this time saying in protest, “We have to find her.” Because there was no telling which side this new Lexi would be on, and I feared if she chose my grandfather over us, then Chance and Liam would be screwed.

Thankfully, Chase heard me loud and clear as he got to his feet, and as he slowly made his way into the bedroom, he said, “Raven is right. We can’t trust Lexi. We need to find her.”

Cash, at that moment, let out one hell of a growl as I watched his hands ball into fists, before he was across the room in less than four strides, pinning Chase’s ass against the wall, while he said to him through gritted teeth, “You want to talk about trust? You took our mate and hid her from us, forcing us to believe that she had perished in that car accident. Do you even know what we have gone through these past couple of days? Chance thought he had killed our mate, and I believed that I had lost the only girl! ever truly loved.”

“I’m sorry, but I had to do what I thought was best at the time.” Chase said, trying to defend himself, as he threw his hands up in the air, like he was actually surrendering, but Cash wasn’t buying his excuse and was quick to dispute his reasoning.

“Of course, you would think that it was best, because just like you, it was reckless and selfish. Did it ever occur to you that a part of me felt like it had died, thinking that I had lost her? You had to have seen my mark. You know what happens when an Alpha marks his Luna and loses her. We go completely mad and lose our will to lead our pack, just like our uncle did.”

My eyebrows furrowed as I pushed myself to completely sit up, now wondering what Cash was insinuating. Had his uncle at some point marked my mother before his death?

Not able to just lie here and listen to the two of them fighting, I got to my feet and moved to the closest dresser, pulling out a sundress. As I pulled it quickly over my head, I continued to listen to the two of the fighting, thinking that this was the worst I had ever heard them go at it before. Of course, I believed this whole time that Chase was in the wrong, and that he never should have led his brothers to believe that I was dead, but on the other hand, I know that he had good intentions.

There was a huge difference between Chase and his brothers when it came to being able to decipher rig from wrong. Where Chance and Cash would truly think something completely out, listing every single consequence, Chase would act completely on his first instinct, not caring what the consequences were who got hurt along the way, as long as in the end it all worked out.

And that was exactly the defense Chase was now trying to use to defend himself, as he now says to his brother, “If I had left it to the two of you to make the damn decision, we all would have been dead by now because neither of you can make the hard decisions that need to be made.”

Once again, Cash let out a low growl, before he raised his fist, throwing a punch that just missed Chase’s head by less than an inch, slamming it right through the wall.

My hand quickly moved to cover my mouth, as a gasp slipped from my lips, worried that this dispute between them was escalating into something much worse. Never before had I seen Cash this mad at Chase, but then again, he was led to believe for the past couple of days that I had brutally passed away in a car accident.

Regardless of who was right or wrong in all of this, I couldn’t just stand here and allow the two of them to tear each other apart, not just because they were both my mates, but because first and foremost they were brothers, and nothing in this world was going to change that.

Feeling like I got my second wind, I screamed out, “Enough!”, as I made my way across the bedroom floor before scooting my petite body between the two of them, blocking them both from doing something they were later going to regret. But now that I had placed myself between their two large masculine bodies, I now wondered what the hell I was going to say, as I didn’t want one to think that I was choosing one over

the other.

Staring speechlessly up into Cash’s eyes, no words seemed to be needed from me, as the hashness that was just present towards his brother slowly began to disappear. But just when I thought I found the right bipartisan words to say, Lexi appeared in the middle of the bedroom with the look of panic in her eyes, as she said directly to me, “They need your help now!”

Without even giving it a second thought, I raced towards her, knowing that I would do whatever it took to save them, regardless of the consequences, realizing at that moment I was becoming more like Chase

than I wanted to admit.
