Honestly, I don’t know what I was saying, because I actually had no clue if it did or if it didn’t, but there was something inside of me that seemed to feel off since it had disappeared, telling me that it wasn’t over.

Shaking my head slightly, I push myself to an upright position, while I say back to him, “I don’t know. All of this is so new to me, and I honestly don’t know if I destroyed it or not, but what I can tell you is that I have an unsettling feeling inside of me that is telling me that it’s still very much here with us now.”

Just as those words left my lips, as if it needed me to confirm its status out loud, the air shifted around us, just like it had done in the bedroom back at the estate when it began to physically show its presence. Chance must have noticed the shift directly after I did, as he quickly moved to sit fully up, while the two of us began to look all around us for any signs of its presence.

It wasn’t until I had fully got to my feet did the forest go completely pitch black, making me tilt my head back to look at the night’s sky to see that the moon had been consumed by thick dark black clouds. What I could only explain as the sound of thunder began to roll in, making me think for a second that a storm was approaching, but Chance wasn’t as oblivious to what was happening as I was.

Grabbing me by my forearm, Chance pulls my back flush against his chest, while he moves his hand to cover my mouth. For a second, I wondered what the hell he was doing, but then I realized the sound I had been hearing rolling in, was the farthest thing from thunder.

As my eyes slowly adjusted to the darkness, they instantly widened at the sight of what was now standing in the middle of the post battlefield. Far too many sets of beady red eyes for me to count now illuminate the spot, as the noses of the wolves were either planted in the earth’s soil or towards the moon, as if they were trying to get a read on what had transpired here recently.

A loud howl rang out at that moment, and Chance took that as his opportunity to pull me quickly behind a tree to shield us from the army of freaking rogues. Last time, there had maybe been a fourth of what was here right now, telling me that this wasn’t just one of the Alpha rogues getting a feel. Whomever this one was, he was here for a reason, and that reason had to be for my grandfather’s crown.

Silently, we stood there in the shadows, watching the rogue numbers by the second multiply, until one of the largest black wolves that I have ever seen stepped into the opening. I couldn’t stop the gasp from slipping from my lips, as fear like I had never felt before began to consume my being, knowing that this beast was here to fight for my grandfather’s crown.

Chance’s arm at that second wrapped itself tightly around me, holding me firmly against him, as I felt his chest begin to rumble against my back. For a second, I wondered what the hell Chance was doing, but then it hit me like a ton of bricks. Just like my grandfather, this beast radiated his Alpha’s presence like a weapon of war, making all those around him bow to his feet. Thankfully, I could feel it, but it didn’t have the same effect on me as it had on others, making me wonder why this was so.

But as his army of rogues parted like the great sea for him, allowing his massive wolf to step in front and center, I saw where his source of power was coming from. Like a parasite, the darkness had sunken its claws into him, fueling his alpha power and influence from those that follow him, as I saw it extend its mist high above them all.

My body instantly began to shake in Chance’s arms, knowing now where the darkness had disappeared to It was clear that it had found itself a new youthful host of my bloodline, and there was no doubt in my

mind that it wanted revenge on me and my wolf for severing its bond to my grandfather.

Slowly, I began to feel its power extending in our direction as if it was searching for me. Inadvertently, I found myself taking a step back, and as I did so, a twig beneath my bare foot cracked so damn loud that I swore it echoed a mile away. Instantly, my heart began to race as every single damn set of beady red eyes turned directly in our direction at the same time.

For a second I thought about running, but that thought only lasted for that second, because I knew there was no way in hell that I could outrun all these rogues. So instead, I just stood there in the shadows, quiet now as a damn mouse, hoping and praying to God that they couldn’t see me.
