Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 45

Chapter 27-1

Raven’s POV

Would you rather it had been Chase?Cash said, making my eyes widen, as I shook my head no, because Chase would be the last person I wanted to pick me up.

I’m just messing with you. Chance had an urgent business matter that he had to attend to. I hope it’s okay that he sent me.

Of course it’s fine, but we had better get going, or we are going to be late for school.”

Cash stood from the couch and walked towards the door, stating, It was a pleasure talking to you, Ms. Wilson. I will inform my grandmother that you will be joining us for dinner on Sunday.

My grandmother hesitated, which was unlike her, making me realize there was something weighing on her mind about having dinner at the Ryder’s house. The pleasure was all mine. She finally said, but as she turned to look at me, I could see sadness lingering in her eyes.

Giving her a warm smile, I said to her, I will see you tonight.

As I stepped out of the house onto the front porch, Cash stood at the edge waiting for me, looking into the

vast forest that surrounded my grandmother’s house. It was at that moment that I realized if this thing

wanted to sneak up on me, it wouldn’t be hard for it to do, especially at night with the forest covering.

Is everything okay?I asked him as I moved to his side, trying to figure out what had his attention.

Placing his arm around me, he said, Yes, everything is fine. While he began to lead me towards his truck.

I considered removing his arm to avoid sending him mixed signals, but it provided me with a sense of security, one that made me feel safe being right next to him. This was the first time that I had stepped out of the house since the incident, and I needed that sense of security, but I just wished that it was with

Chance.

A part of me was disappointed that Chance didn’t make it a priority to pick me up, especially after what had happened, but I knew if Cash said it was urgent, then I’m sure it was. Plus, I knew that Chance trusted Cash, and if he trusted him, then so did I.

Opening my door for me, just like Chance had, he waited for me to get into the truck, before he moved to the driver’s side, as I watched him looking around once again. I began to wonder if he too was being paranoid after what they had found, or if Chance had threatened his life, telling him that he had better keep me safe. Either way, it was clear that he was taking his job of watching over me seriously, and if this thing wasn’t a monster, I would definitely feel a hundred percent safe in his company.

The drive to school at first was a little bit awkward, especially as I thought back to the day at the waterhole when he had tried to kiss me and I refused him, but Cash had a way with his words, making me feel comfortable. Plus, I knew he and Mazie were spending a lot of time together after the waterhole mishap, and I was beginning to wonder if something was brewing romantically between the two of them.

Your chariot has arrived, my lady.Cash says as he parks the truck outside the school, and my heart instantly begins to race as I sit there staring at the building.

Unfortunately, I really didn’t think about it until now, how hard it was going to be for me to step back inside the place where I had seen that thing. Closing my eyes to steady my racing heart was the wrong thing for me to do, as I was instantly met with a set of glowing red eyes.

As if on cue, I felt my breathing become irregular, as one of those damn panic attacks threatened to take over, and I tried to steady my breathing, just like the shrink had taught me too, but I felt myself losing the battle very quickly against it.
