Chapter 231
Raven’s POV
My entire body just felt numb. There were no other words to describe the emptiness and betrayal I was now feeling. It was like a cold knife had been driven straight into my heart, and with every second of his gaze on mine, he twisted the cold blade even deeper to remind me of how much of a fool I had been to believe that he truly cared about me.
All these years he had invaded my privacy, pretending to be there for me with each and every stupid little hiccup in my life, telling me that none of it was ever going to matter after we graduated from high school and now I can see why. Where my grandfather had entrusted Lexi to watch over mè, he had done it himself, and by doing so, the son of a bitch knew every little thing there was to possibly know about me.
Foolishly, I had trusted him, more so than I trusted anybody else in my life, but now I can see that this whole time our friendship had been nothing but a farce. Honestly, I had to wonder if any aspect of my life prior to my parents’ deaths was even real, or if every single damn person had been lying to me and playing me for a naive fool.
Obviously, I trusted way too easily, to allow this to happen not once but twice in my life, and who the hell knows how many others played me too. But what I couldn’t figure out was how he had fooled everyone else around me into thinking he was a helpless human. I mean, I get it, I was young and oblivious to this world before I came to Beaumont, so at least I had somewhat of an excuse, but how on earth did he fool
my mates?
Even right now, Chance and Cash couldn’t see past those beady glowing red eyes, but I could, as those eyes had been there for me most of my life, and that is why I was having a hell of a time pulling myself together. I knew what Cash was now asking of me, and I knew what had to be done, but I also didn’t know if I had the strength inside of me to hurt him, even though it was apparent that I was nothing to him but a pawn in his little game of chess to win my grandfather’s crown.
That little old saying about keeping your friends close but your enemies closer couldn’t be more suitable right now, as he had fooled us all and infiltrated our circle of trust, but what I also couldn’t understand was why he had brought them all here at once. I mean, he could have taken Chase easily since he had his isolated here, but instead, he brought Chance and Cash here foo, making them three Alphas strong.
For a minute, it made no sense to me, but then a gust of wind carried straight through the battlefield, causing the dark clouds and mist above our heads to break just enough for the moon’s brilliant light to seep through. Raising my head, I stared up at the moon, allowing its beam to shine straight down on me. Instantly, I felt something inside of me shift as my body began to absorb the moon’s beams as if they were recharging the power of light inside of me. It was only then that I realized what his master plan had been this whole damn time.
The son of a bitch had not only used me but my mates and Lexi too, to get what the hell he wanted, without even raising a hand until now. He had strategically separated Cash and I alone in West Virginia, forcing the bond to flourish between us after surviving a tragic encounter with the rogues.
Shit, now that I’m thinking about it, those rogues that survived the battle deep within the mountains, that we willingly brought back with us, were probably here today under his command. But even as bad as that all sounded, it wasn’t even the kicker.

Claim
Something was telling me that he had been the one behind the ambush that had caused the accident back In Beaumont that put each and every one of his damn plans into action here today. Between turning Chase
against his brothers, making him believe that he was doing it to save them all, to having Chase finally confess his true feelings towards me and marking me as his mate, he somehow pulled it off.
But let’s not forget his untimely appearance with Chance and Cash in the hallway tonight, right at the precise moment that we were about to lose the battle against my grandfather’s darkness. Chance had been forced into marking me as his mate stealing our special moment with each other, all so that I could wield the power to stop my grandfather.
His damn plan worked, and now that my mates and I had successfully severed the darkness from my grandfather, he thought that he was clear to march his big ass army right onto my grandfather’s lands, to take over my grandfather’s position as king. But what he didn’t realize was he had underestimated my mates, and they, nor I, were going to go down without a fight, because I would be damned if we were going to lose to him.
Knowing that there had to be so much more that he was behind, I had to stop myself before I completely lost my mind thinking of all the possibilities of what he had caused over the years. I especially didn’t want to think that he had something to do with the car crash that had claimed my parents’ lives, but in the end, it would make sense, because, like I said, I didn’t want to believe that fate could be so cruel.
Through my now bloodshot eyes, I stared over Cash’s shoulder, right at the massive beast I used to call my best friend, finally coming to the realization of what I had to do. The son of a bitch had stolen my life and taken so many of those that I loved away from me, that I was going to make him pay with his own damn life. The best part about it all is that, he was the one that had weaponized me to be able to do so, leaving his own demise to be the thing that ruins him too.
With that thought, I stepped back from my mates, and begged my wolf to come forward, as I had a score that needed to be settled.
