Raven’s POV

Slowly, my body began to stir, awakening me from the complete emptiness that had swallowed me whole, after I had blasted Jacob’s Alpha rogue wolf with everything that I had and more. The last thing I remembered seeing was his eyes turning to look in my direction, just as the bolt of white power lit up the center of the battlefield like the Fourth of July, consuming everything in a twenty-foot radius in its aftermath. That last memory stirred up dread and worry inside of me, not for Jacob’s wellbeing, but for Chance and Liam, who I had been trying to protect.
With my stomach turning in knots, thinking that I had possibly hurt one of them, I struggled to part my lips to open my mouth, as “Chance…” dryly slipped from them as barely a whisper.
Swallowing hard, I felt my throat begin to burn, as it was drier than the Sahara Desert, but that didn’t stop me from trying to once again call out for him. My throat instantly turned raw, causing it to inflame, as tears began to pool behind my closed lids from the pain.
I felt the coolness of the rim of the glass press against my bottom lip, before I heard her familiar voice say to me, “You need to drink.”
So badly I wanted to refuse, and tell her to shove it up her ass, but as the tears began to slip from the corners of my eyes from trying to swallow once again, I surrendered and opened my mouth. The cold contents of the glass begin to pour into my dry mouth, instantly reviving it, before it slowly slides down the back of my throat, extinguishing the fire causing my pain.
My eyes finally opened, while my hands moved from my sides, as I reached for the glass, wanting to take it into my hands and pour more of its contents into my mouth faster, but Lexi tried to warn me by saying,” Not too fast.”
Of course, I didn’t listen to her warning, as its coolness felt too refreshing, but it was only seconds later that I found myself paying for not listening to her, as I began to literally choke on it.
Taking the glass from my hands, Lexi tries to help me sit up, while I begin to uncontrollably cough up its contents that went down the wrong pipe. “Why don’t you ever listen to me?” Lexi now asks, scolding me as if she was my mother, as she pats me on the back, trying to help me.
I wanted to say to her, “I don’t know, maybe it’s because you have deceived me all these years.” But I couldn’t stop coughing long enough to tell her. So instead, I batted her to get the hell away from me, not wanting her damn help.
Shockingly, Lexi didn’t even put up a fight. She just stepped away, letting out a meaningless huff, before she turned her back to me, as her shoulders slumped in defeat. Wiping the tears quickly from my eyes, thinking that they had to be really distorting my vision, I looked straight at Lexi, wondering what the hell had happened to her since I last saw her.
But it didn’t take me long to notice that Lexi was locked in a deep stare, eventually leading me to follow the path of her gaze straight to a massive king bed, allowing me to see what made her so upset. Lying on the right side of the bed, I could see a very pale looking figure that now barely resembled my grandfather. It was clear by the unsteady rise of the sheets over his chest, that death was knocking on his door.
A subtle sob slipped from Lexi’s lips before she could move her hand to her mouth to stop it, drawing my

attention back to her, as her own tears began to seep slowly from the corners of her eyes. Never in all my years have I known her, have I ever seen her look so vulnerable, making me once again wonder about the relationship her and my grandfather have, as she looked like she was about ready to have a breakdown.
