Chapter 238-1
Raven’s POV
25 Poline
When Lexi and I had no more tears to cry, we reluctantly pulled from our embrace, turning to look at the man that was responsible for bringing us together. From afar, I could tell that he was in the final stages before death, but from where I stood now I had to wonder how he was even hanging on.
Seeing him this close and in the helpless state he was in, I couldn’t help but think back about the conversation Lexi and I just had. If I had only had the opportunity to get to know him like she had, then maybe I would have been able to have a real relationship with him like her.
It honestly pained me, thinking about all the people and experiences that had either been kept or taken from me, all because of some damn old curse that was plagued upon my family. I can now see why my mother had done some of the things she had, as I am sure that she was afraid for her life. But as for me, I must have been wired a little bit differently than her, because the same reasons why she had run all those years ago were what kept me here.
Sniffling back her tears, Lexi lets go of my hand, before stepping forward towards the bed, taking a cautious seat on its edge, right next to my grandfather’s frail body. Reaching, I watched her delicately place one of my grandfather’s fallen strands of hair back in its place, before her hand finally rested gently upon his cheek.
Once again, Lexi sniffled back her tears, this time before she spoke, not to me, but to my grandfather. “You can rest in peace, knowing that I will always be by your granddaughter’s side.”
My heart instantly began to ache, watching her letting him go. It especially hit me hard when I saw a single tear fall from Lexi’s cheek, landing right on the pale flesh of my grandfather’s forehead, before she leaned down, placing the softest of a kiss on it. As she moved to sit back up, my grandfather’s lips slightly parted, and I watched his chest rise, taking in a long inhale, before he slowly exhaled that breath, taking his soul
with it.
Tears now began to flow uncontrollably from Lexi’s eyes, and I quickly stepped forward, moving to her side, as I wrapped one of my arms around her, trying to comfort her. No words came from either of our mouths, because I knew there was nothing I could say or do to make the pain she was feeling right now go
away.
As I stood there comforting Lexi the best that I could, trying to keep my own unexplainable emotions in check, the door to the bedroom thankfully swung open, diverting my attention towards it. My eyes instantly landed on Mazie, whose gaze quickly moved from me to Lexi, who I still had sobbing in my arms.
Her eyes lingered on Lexi’s crying figure for a few seconds, before they moved back to mine. Instantly, I could see what looked like conflict in her eyes, as I saw her lips slightly part like she was going to say something, but instead, she turned and took off down the hallway, leaving Lexi and me just as she had found us.
For a moment, I thought that the situation might have been too deep for Mazie to handle, but within a few minutes, she had returned, but this time she wasn’t alone. In her shadow, Cash and Chase came flying into the room right on Mazie’s heels. Immediately, they moved to my side, pulling me from Lexi’s crying arms, into theirs, while I watched Mazie take my place with Lexi.
“How are you feeling love? You had us scared.” Cash said, all choked up, as his arms tightened around my

I barely got the words, “I can’t breathe” out of my mouth, before Chase pried my body from Cash’s arms,
while he scorned him by saying, “You, big lug, didn’t you hear her.”
