Chase then pulled me into his own arms with caution, nuzzling his nose in the crook of my neck, while he took in a long inhale of my scent, before he whispered, “I was so worried about you. Don’t ever do that again.”
The truth is, there is nothing in this world that can stop me from putting an end to all of this if I could. Plus, Jacob seriously had one coming, for everything the son of a bitch had done to me over the years. But I wasn’t going to tell Chase this, because I knew it would just make him and his brothers worry more about
Right now, we all need to focus our attention on finding Jacob before he has the ability to rally up more rogues to join his army. As for the darkness that had powered his strength, I believe that my little burst of light had impaired that for the time being, giving us hopefully the time we need to figure out how to put an end to this, once and for all. But if we were going to do this, then we need the elders to be transparent with us about what happened all those years ago.
Just as that thought crossed my mind, a low growl rumbled into the room from the cracked window, making Cash run to it, to see what the hell was going on outside. For a second, my heart stopped, thinking that it was far too soon for another attack, but then Cash put that worry aside when he said, “Jesus, they are at it again. We need to stop them before they make us orphans.”
Chase reluctantly removed his arms from around me, before moving to the window himself, with me closely behind him, wanting to see what the hell was going on outside. But as my eyes focused on the two wolves going nose to nose at it, I realized that these two Alphas were the two that had attacked Jacob during the battle, one which i knew was Evan’s wolf, but the other, I had no clue who he could possibly be.
“We better get down there.” Chase then said, before the two of them rushed out of the room without saying another word to me.
My eyes moved to Lexi and Mazie, making sure that Lexi was doing okay, before I turned my attention back out the window to see Liam and Chance arriving on the scene first. Liam quickly shifted into his massive wolf, letting out a low growl, as if he was warning the two of them that now wasn’t the time or place, while he placed himself between them.
As if the large black Alpha wolf heeded Liam’s warning, he shifted back into his human form. My mouth at that moment instantly dropped, as my hand reached for the window seal to steady myself, while my eyes locked onto a man that looked completely identical to Evan. If it wasn’t for the visible scar on his face, I would have assumed it was Evan, but this man standing before Liam’s wolf was definitely not him.
When the man’s mouth opened, and his words reached my ears, I realized that this man was no other than Evan’s twin brother Ethan, the brother that was supposedly dead, and the man that I was told my mother hated. But as I stand here listening to what he has to say, I realize that the latter half of that thought could be a lie, as his words drop more than just one bombshell on me. One thing in particular has me now looking between my mates and brother, now seeing the unmistakable resemblance between them.
At that moment, my head began to spin as I watched Evan shift into his human form. I listened to what he had to say, before I found myself stumbling back from the window in a total state of shock, as I whispered, “No, this can’t be.”
Mazie and Lexi quickly moved to my side, catching me before I lost my footing, as they both now looked

at me with grave concern in their eyes. Mazie’s mouth opened, and I could tell that she was speaking to me, but everything around me was now spinning as all of this was too much for me to process at once.
Seeing that I was distraught, Mazie left me in Lexi’s care, as she moved to the window to see what the cause of my dismay had been. It only took a second before her own eyes widened in shock, telling me that this was all news to her too, and that I wasn’t the only one that had been kept in the dark.
But that didn’t make the situation any better, as my mind was now in overdrive, wondering what my mate’s uncle and father actually knew about my mother, and why she had left all those years ago.
