Honestly, to me, it was believable, especially since Mrs. Jacobs now holds an educational level degree. But even with me believing this, I had to wonder what my mother thought about this back then. Did she feel the same way as I had felt seeing Chase with Jessica? And as crazy as it may sound, it’s a bit ironic if you ask me that the history between the same families had somewhat repeated itself generation after generation, making me question if

there was something else at play.

But even with everything he just said, I believed that Ethan was also holding back on playing all his cards at once, because, by the sounds of it, there was more to the story than what they were saying. I could only imagine what Jessica’s mother had been like all those years ago with my mother, especially if she had been anything like her daughter.

Chase knew better than any of us how vindictive Jessica truly could be, and being around her and her mother, I was sure that he would know the two of them better than anyone. So, when he opened his mouth, interrupting his father and his uncle by asking, “What exactly else did she do?” We all couldn’t help but want to know ourselves.

Evan and Ethan once again went silent, as they turned to stare at each other, but they only remained silent for a short period of time this time, before Evan blurted out loud, “That was

never proven.”

Hearing his father’s little outburst, Chase now steps between his father and his uncle while he asks, “What wasn’t proven.”

Evan instantly gave his brother a glare, warning him, but even though he was the Alpha of the pack, his authority obviously didn’t extend to his brother. Slowly, a smirk began to form on Ethan’s face, and it was clear that he loved the fact that Evan was now being questioned by those that looked up to him as an authoritarian for all these years.

Finally, as if Ethan got his fill of seeing his brother being questioned, he tilts his head ever so slightly to the side, staring directly at his brother, before he plain out says, “That she was the one that had been working with the rogues.”

Immediately, Evan let out a low growl, before he defended her through gritted teeth, by saying,

Instantly, a dispute broke out between the two, as Evan went clearly in defensive mode over Mrs. Jacobs, making us all look at each other wondering if Mrs. Jacobs could possibly be behind all of this. But even though all of us in the room looked confused, especially seeing Evan standing up for her, there was one of us that didn’t and that was Chase, who still looked

like he knew something that the rest of us didn’t know.

As if he had heard enough of what his father and uncle were saying, he raised his hands between them, while he yelled out, “Enough.” Making them both stop in mid-sentence, while everyone else in the room waited for him to speak. When he had everyone’s full attention, he then said, “I believe Uncle Ethan is right about her.”

Evan’s eyebrows furrowed as he stared at his son, looking a bit taken back that he of all people would think this, because the truth was, if he did, then why on earth would he have stayed in a relationship with Jessica all these years, knowing that her mother was a traitor? Finally, he asks his son the question I am sure we all want to know. “Chase, why do you say

that son?”

At that moment, Chase turned to look at me, and he knew that this subject was extremely touchy with me, as he had chosen Jessica over me for weeks after I had arrived, even knowing I was his mate. Yes, in the end he had chosen me, but that doesn’t take back the pain I had felt seeing the two of them together, or the fact that he defended her, knowing damn straight that she was the one in the wrong.

As if he was cautious not to say the wrong thing, in fear that he may hurt me, he hesitated for a few seconds, before he finally admitted, “I saw an Alpha rogue at their home, before all hell began to break loose. And from what I could hear, Jessica was his daughter, not the late Mr. Jacobs, that we were led to believe.”
