Chapter 28-1

Raven’s POV

Mazie stood by my side, ast stared at the new door to the girl’s locker room, frozen in fear of stepping back inside.

“You don’t have to do this. You could just change in the girl’s bathroom.” She said, trying to comfort me, as she wrapped her arm around mine, but I knew that eventually I would have to face my fears of stepping back inside it, especially if I made the squad.

Shaking my head, I said to her, “No, I need to do this while I have you with me for support.”

“Well then let’s do this.” She said as she opened the door for me, making me take a deep breath, before I stepped inside, facing my fears head on.

We only made it a few feet inside when we were met by Jessica and a wall of her merry friends, from allowing us to move any further into the locker room. Crossing her arms over her chest, she says to Mazie, “Please don’t tell me that you have decided to try out too, because this really isn’t your thing. I heard the football team has a position open for a new kicker that might suit you better.”

Mazie stepped forward, getting into Jessica’s face, shocking me, because I had never seen this side of

Mazie before. Beneath her breath, I barely caught what she said to Jessica, as she said to her, “Your

mother may be the principal at this school, but remember I outrank you outside these walls, and they won’t

be protecting you much longer.”

Jessica shockingly took a step back, surprising me, as she said, “We shall see about that.” Before she

pushed her way past me, with her group of groupies.

“What the hell was that all about?” I asked Mazie, still in shock to see her stand up to Jessica like that.

Mazie shrugged her shoulders, before she said to me nonchalantly, “I guess you’re not the only one to face your fears today. I’m done walking on eggshells around her, and besides, she has had it coming for a while

now.”

“Fair enough, but remind me never to get on your bad side.”

Mazie began to chuckle before her cell phone began to ring, and as she pulled it out, looking at the screen, her face sobered up. “I have to take this.” She said to me as she stepped away, moving towards the shower area where I had first noticed that thing last night.

With the locker room still packed with girls, I headed to my locker, as I continued to glance back towards the showers as if that thing was going to appear out of nowhere. Quickly, I began to change, not wanting

to be here, any longer than I had to be.

As I tied my shoes, Mazie appeared with her phone in her hand, while she said to me, “Grab your bag and take it out on the field with you. Plans have changed, and I won’t be able to stay with you after school.”

Chapter 38-1-

“Is everything okay?” I asked her, as I quickly gathered my stuff, seeing the hurry she seemed to be in.

“Everything is fine. Josie didn’t show up for her shift, so I guess I have to go in and fill in for her. But don’t worry, Cash will be here watching out for you.”

“I hope everything is okay with Josie.” I told Mazie as we headed out of the locker room towards the field, as Mazie says, “Me too. It’s unlike her to miss her shift.”

Stepping out onto the field, I noticed Cash in the bleachers immediately, allowing me to inform Mazie that I would be good from here. As I walked towards the girls already beginning to warm up, one of Jessica’s friends leaves out a huff before she makes a sly comment, “I guess one Ryder brother wasn’t enough for her. You better watch your back, Jessica. She will have all three of them before week’s end.”
