My eyes moved to the bleachers to see Cash now standing with the look of distaste on his face, as his eyes were fixed on the girl that had just spoken, making me wonder if he had heard her. But no one seemed to be paying attention to him, as all eyes were now on Jessica, waiting for her response.

“Chase would never stoop to her level. Have you seen where she lives? The school’s janitor lives in a nicer house than her. Besides, she isn’t even one of us Let the other two go slumming with her, because when it comes time, Chase will rise to the top where he belongs with me by his side.”

I had no clue what the hell she was talking about other than the part where she had insulted me and my grandmother’s house, but that was enough to push me over the edge.

“Seriously Jessica? Do you really think you’re better than me? News flash, you’re from a town that doesn’t even exist on a map. Does this place even have an area code? And do your friends know that all those designer clothes you wear are knockoffs? As for the Ryder brothers, I am sorry to tell you, but they all like me better than you. Gasps filled the surrounding air, as Jessica’s eyes narrowed, before she growled at me like a damn dog. Taking me by surprise, she pounced on me like a cat, knocking me off my feet and onto the ground.

The two of us began to roll across the field, as I tried to get the upper hand on her, but damn was she

strong. I had never been in an actual fight before now, at least not one outside my kickboxing class, which

wasn’t doing me much good right now rolling on the ground.

“I’m going to make you pay for that.” She said, as she took the upper position on me, but I was quick to roll

her once again off me, as my leg freed enough to kick her a good one, giving me enough time to get to my

feet, while the boys yelled, “Chick fight!”

Jessica got to her own feet, as she let out another growl, but this time out of frustration, because she was

no longer in control. The football team that had been practicing on the field all came running in our

୮ direction, as the cheering squad joined them, forming a circle around us.

The way I saw it, the two of us at this point were bound to get detention, so I might as well make it good, because this may be my only chance to put her in her place.

“I think you are the one that is going to pay for it.” I taunted Jessica through gritted teeth, more than ready

to put this Barbie want to be in her place.

“We will see about that.” Jessica said, as she once again pounced towards me, but this time I was ready for her, catching her with a front kick before she could even get two feet in front of me.

The kick that I landed to her abdomen sent her flying backwards into no other than Chase’s arms, as a whimper came from her lips, letting me know that she felt it. I was sure that she was going to play the victim card with Chase, but to my surprise she pushed off him, as she said to me, “Lucky hit.” Before she

Once again, I readied myself for her, but just when she got a few feet in front of me, Cash stepped in between us, bringing Jessica to a halt, as he yelled out with authority, “Enough!”

“She started it.” Jessica said as she pointed her finger at me, but Cash wasn’t buying it as he had seen it all unfold.

Cash took a step towards her, letting out a growl of his own, as he leaned down to her ear, and said through gritted teeth, “Do we need to let the elders know of your actions today? Need I remind you, that it is forbidden to fight on school property, especially to fight a….” He trailed off, not finishing what he was saying, leaving me to wonder why he didn’t finish.

Chase took a step toward Jessica, pulling her back from Cash, as he now stepped up to his brother, going nose to nose. “You heard her. Raven started it.”

“Is that so? Maybe if you were paying attention then you would have seen what transpired beforehand.”

“Maybe the two of us should settle this matter.” Chase says as he pushed Cash, but Cash didn’t move only an inch from where he stood.

Thankfully, at that moment, the football coach blew his whistle, making everyone turn in his direction, before he yelled, “Break it up!”

“We’ll finish this later.” Chase said, as he began to walk backwards onto the field, not taking his eyes off

Cash until he was twenty yards away from him.

Cash turned back towards me, and I could see the look of anger in his eyes, something I wasn’t used to

seeing. Moving towards me, he grabbed ahold of my arm, pulling me towards the exit of the field as he

said, “Get your bag. We are leaving.”
