Chapter 30-1
Raven’s POV
After everything that I had survived this year, this was the last thing that would have been on my list of possible ways I was going to die, but here I was holding on for dear life, thinking that I was going to be taken out of this world by a damn horse of all things.
I was halfway to the mountain, before I heard Cash calling my name, making me turn my head slightly over my shoulder to see he was hot on my tail, as I faintly heard him yelling something to me about pulling back. I had no clue what the heck he wanted me to pull back on, as this animal didn’t come with a standard emergency brake.
Honestly, I didn’t think this situation could get any worse, but as I furned my head back around, my eyes instantly widened, seeing a huge river now appearing in front of me, in the direct path where this damn beast was running straight to. As if my heart wasn’t already beating out of my chest, it now felt like it was going to explode, as I began to scream out to Cash for help, while I began to silently pray for a miracle.
I don’t know if it was the desperation in my screams to Cash, or that my prayers must have been answered, but Cash somehow managed to catch up with me, as his horse was now almost beside the one
I was on.
“Pull back on the reins…” He began to say, but then stopped when he noticed that I no longer had the reins in my hands, as I had let go of them a mile back, in my desperate attempt not to fall off.
Reaching out to me with one hand, he now says to me, “You’re going to have to jump.”
“What? Are you insane?” I asked him, as I thought about my odds of actually making the jump, versus surviving if I stayed on this horse, but as the river neared, I wasn’t liking either of my odds right now.
“Raven, look at me.” Cash says, demanding my attention, making me turn my head back to look at him,
before he continues to say, “I need you to trust me. I promise I won’t let you fall.”
Honestly, I didn’t know if I was on the brink of death or if it was just his choice of words, but at that moment, I began to hear my mother’s voice in my head saying to me, “I promise! won’t let you fall.” As
memories with her began to resonate with all the moments she had said those same words to me, and
not once did she let me fall. Unfortunately, Cash wasn’t my mother, but he had been there for me since I
met him, making me believe that his words held truth to them, just like my mother’s had.
With desperation now in his voice, he now says, “Raven, we are running out of time. You must jump.” As he
extended his hand closer to me, almost touching me.
Knowing he was right, and that I was running out of time, as the river was now so close, I could feel the temperature change. Tightening my thighs around the horse, I struggled trying to release my feet, but I didn’t give up, knowing that I had to free them if I was going to be able to jump.
As if I had a guardian angel watching over me, my feet finally became free at the same time. I felt Cash’s

hand make contact, but as his arm began to wrap around my waist, his horse bumped into mine. The grip I had with my thighs that were steadying me on the horse became unsteady, and I felt like I was going to fall off the horse at any moment.
“Let go. I have you.” Cash now says, as he tightens his hold around my waist, while I began to feel myself slowly losing my balance, knowing the only thing holding me on right now was my death grip around the horn.
