Chapter 30-2
“Raven, please. Have faith in me.” Cash says in his last desperate attempt to make me believe in him, and I don’t know why, but at that moment his words felt like they targeted my soul, and my hands slowly let go, as my thighs completely loosened their hold.
His grip he had around my waist tightened, and I felt my body weightlessly being pulled towards him. Before I knew what was happening, I was in the protection of his arms, with my own arms wrapped tightly around his neck, facing the opposite direction, as I now sat safely in his lap, while he brought his horse slowly to a halt.
With my head now buried in his chest, I closed my eyes, as tears of relief pooled behind my closed lids, while my racing heart finally stopped beating out of my chest. Cash’s hand began to caress my back, trying to soothe me, and my body on its own accord snuggled into his embrace, feeling the safety that his touch provided.
Leaning down, his face leaned against the side of my head, as his lips moved to my ear, whispering to me, “I got you, love.”
It took a moment for his words to register, but when they did, I loosened my hold around his neck, realizing that I shouldn’t be clinging onto him like this, even though my body was fighting me not to let go. As I open my eyes, a single tear falls from the corner, and Cash’s hand quickly moves to my cheek to remove it, as he says to me, “I shouldn’t have put you on a horse alone. I’m so sorry.”
Looking into his eyes, I could see guilt and torment plaguing them, but it wasn’t his fault. I should have spoken up and told him that I wasn’t comfortable riding a horse, but I had convinced myself that I could do it, regardless of my inexperience. If it was anyone’s fault, it was my own, and I needed to let him know this so that he didn’t have the burden of my almost–death experience hanging over his head.
“No, Cash. Don’t blame yourself. It was my decision to get on the horse. Plus, how were you to know that it was going to take off like that?”
“Chance is going to kill me when he hears about this.” He says as he looks away from me, now worried
that this was going to cause issues between him and his brother, and that was the last thing I wanted to
do, especially after all the issues I have already caused between them and Chase.
“Chance doesn’t need to know about this. We can keep this between just the two of us. Besides, nothing
happened to me other than I might have seen my life flash before my eyes for a second.”
Cash slowly turned back to look at me, as I knew the last part of what I said to him would hopefully lighten
the situation, knowing his playful and joking personality. Thankfully, it worked, as a smile forms on his
face, while he asks, “Was I in those flashes?”
Shaking my head, I batted him across the chest, as I said to him, “Of course that is what you would want
to know.”
“Can’t blame a guy for asking.” He says now with a smirk on his face, bringing back the old Cash, that

always had a playful smile on his face and mischief in his eyes, and that was what I loved about him.
Now that I was safe, and Cash wasn’t blaming himself, I realized that our current sitting arrangements weren’t the most desirable, especially with the horn of the saddle poking at my back end.
Looking over my shoulder, wondering how I was going to get turned around, I asked Cash, “Do you think you could help a girl out here?”
Placing his hands on my hips, he lifted me with ease, as he turned me around facing forward, while he moved back on the saddle, giving me room to comfortably sit in front of him. I was certain at this point, he was going to turn the horse around and head back to the ranch, but instead, he said to me, “I think this might be the proper way to teach you to ride a horse.” As he moves to hand me the reins, while he leans over my shoulders, explaining to me how to steer the horse using the reins, and most importantly how to stop a horse.
“Let’s try this again.” He tells me, as the horse began to walk, and I steered it away from the river just like he taught me to do.
“See that trail up ahead. Make her go that way.” He then said as he pointed, and wrapped one of his arms around me, as the horse began to pick up its speed.
But this time I wasn’t scared, because I felt a sense of security in his arms, just like I feel when I am with his brother, making me question the feelings I have for them.
