Chapter 31-2
As he wiped the water from his face, he turned to look at me, while a damn smile formed on his face. “I was going to ask you to join me, but I guess I don’t have to now.”
“Cash, what the hell was that? You could have killed yourself. That has to be at least three stories.”
“Four.” He said, correcting me, making me leave out a growl of frustration at him, as he began to swim towards me, and I wanted to strangle him for worrying me like that.
Crossing my arms over my chest, I said to him, “Let me guess, this is your way of blowing off steam?”
A chuckle comes from his lips, as he begins wading through the water towards me, while his chest appears above the surface, making me take a step back, as I lower my head, looking away from his body, while he says to me, “Well yeah. The adrenaline itself is a rush. You should give it a try sometime. You might like it.”
“Yeah, that’s never going to happen.”
“And why not?” He asks, as he stops in front of me, but my eyes remain down, as I admit to him, “I’m afraid of heights.”
“No way. Don’t they have all those big ass skyscrapers out there in the city?”
“Yeah, but…” I began to say, but stopped when I remember back to the precise moment that I got my fear of heights. I was just a child, maybe four or five, and I was visiting my mother at her law office, which was on the twentieth floor of her building.
I remember the day like it was yesterday, as I was on the floor by her desk, playing with one of my dolls, while I was watching a man cleaning her windows. The man had a huge smile on his face, as he stared through the window at me, making shapes on it with the soap, while he cleaned it as if he was trying to entertain me.
As he drew a smiley face on the window, with a tongue hanging out, I giggled and got to my feet, moving towards the window, as he removed the face, and began to draw something else, but he never got to finish what he started to draw. I remember the fear that was in his eyes at that moment when the cable that was holding him up gave loose, and I remember pressing my hand to the window, as I watched his body fall to the ground below, while a scream that could wake the dead came from my lips. After that day, I never returned to my mother’s office or went near a window in any of the buildings in the city.
“Raven, it’s okay. I would never make you.” Cash says, pulling me out of my memory, realizing

he was holding onto my hands that were shaking in his, as he rubbed the back of my hand with his thumb, trying to soothe me once again.
Pulling my hands from his, I turned away from him, trying to stop the feelings I had brewing inside of me towards him from his touch. Why did he have to be so kind and caring? Why couldn’t he just be like Chase and hate me, because it would make things so much easier for
“Raven, I’m sorry I didn’t mean to scare you, or make you feel uncomfortable around me.” He now says to me, as he places his hand on my shoulder, wanting me to turn around to face
him.
The thing was, he didn’t do anything wrong, and that was the problem. If anything, I was the one in the wrong, having these feelings for him, when I just committed to having a relationship with his brother. I wish there was a way that I could tell him this, but if I did, then I would be admitting my feelings for him, and I couldn’t let him know that. It would just cause more problems with his brothers, and my relationship I had just started with Chance, but I couldn’t dismiss the feelings that I had growing inside of me for him.
Knowing once again that I needed to simmer the fire burning in my soul towards him, and wanting not to make him feel this way, I resorted back, to our playfulness. As I turned around to face him, I leaned down, placed my hand in the water, as I brought it out splashing him, while I said to him, “Cool off cowboy. You’re not that hot to make me feel uncomfortable. You should see what the guys back in California look like, or maybe you already have.”
The dumbfound look on his face at that moment was priceless, but I only got to enjoy it for a second, as he reached out for me, throwing me over his shoulder, before he turned and began to walk out into the middle of the pool of water.
A yelp of surprise came from my lips, as I began to giggle, knowing that I had deescalated the moment between us, and that we were both back to our playful selves, where we needed to keep things between us.
