Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 55

Chapter 32-1

Raven’s POV

As the sun began to set, Cash and I headed back to the ranch. It had been a roller-coaster kind of day, full of ups and downs, not to mention the turns, but at the end of the day, Cash had us both smiling, as we left all the drama that happened today behind us, at least for now and hopefully the rest of the night.

Tomorrow was going to be a different story when I had to pay for the consequences of my actions against Jessica, and I dreaded the thought of being called out for it in front of her mother. But for now, I was going to enjoy the peace that I felt in my heart, as I leaned back into Cash, looking up at the stars that were beginning to show themselves, as he took the reins of taking us back to the ranch.

I was beyond exhausted from my lack of being able to sleep last night, and it was taking all my strength to keep my eyes open. Honestly, if it wasn’t for Cash’s one arm wrapped around my waist, I might have fallen off the horse by now, as I felt myself drifting off, caught in the state of hypnagogia.

It wasn’t until I heard Cash whisper into my ear, “We are back, love.” Did I realize that I had drifted off once again, waking this time to see the ranch now directly ahead of us. But the ranch wasn’t the only thing that came into focus, as I saw Chance standing outside the barn with the horse that had given me a near-death experience.

Peeling myself from Cash’s chest, I tried my best to sit up, worried about what it might look like to Chance, not wanting to give him the wrong impression of what the two of us had been up to. But as we drew closer to Chance, I could see a displeased look on his face, worrying me that he thought the worst of us.

As Cash brings the horse to a halt, Chance asks, “Care to tell me why I found Speed Demon saddled and running freely around the ranch?”

“Speed Demon?” I said under my breath, as I turned slightly to look at Cash, narrowing my eyes at him, now wanting to strangle him because it was obvious why the horse had its name. But I had promised him that I wouldn’t speak of what happened to Chance, and I was going to keep my promise, but Cash would pay for this later.

Turning my attention back to Chance, putting an apologetic look on my face, before I said to him, “It’s my fault. We stopped to take a break, and I didn’t tie her to the tree right.” But I quickly realized that was the wrong thing to say.

“You put her on mother’s horse? What the hell were you thinking?”

Cash removed his arm from around my waist at that moment, before getting off the horse, leaving me sitting on the saddle while he said to Chance, “It was that or putting her on Angel.

My eyes once again narrowed at Cash, thinking I liked my odds better with a horse named Angel, verses Speed Demon.

Chance moved to Cash, handing him the reins for Speed Demon, before pushing him out of the way, as he moved to help me off the horse, while he asked me, “Are you sure you are okay?”

“I’m fine.” Is all I said to him, because the truth was, I was fine. Actually, I was better than fine, as I felt a sense of peace after the afternoon I had spent with Cash.

“Why are you wet?” He now asks, feeling my damp bra and panties under my clothes.

“We took a little swim at the waterfall.” Cash says, answering his question, making Chance’s one eyebrow raise as he looked at me, before he turned to look at Cash.

“Let me get this straight. After what happened last night to Raven, you thought it was a good idea to take her out horseback riding into the mountains, and then go for a little swim?”
