Moon Phased: The Triple Claim novel Chapter 56

Chapter 32-2

“Well after the day we had, it sounded good to me.” Cash says, trying to justify his decisions, but instead, he just outed us to Chance about the fights we had after school.

Chance’s head snapped back to look at me, and I knew the question was coming before it even left his lips. “And what kind of day was that?”

I knew there was no sense in trying to keep it from him, because eventually he would find out, and the truth was, if he had been at school today with me none of it would have gone down.

“Our girl here stood up to Jessica in a fight.” Cash blurts out, and I’m not so sure if that should have been how Chance was let in on what happened, because at that moment a growl rumbled from his chest.

“Jessica is going to pay for this. She knows the rules and she has broken them.” Chance tells Cash as he reached for my arm, holding it up like he was looking for injuries to me, making me pull my arm from him as I say to him, “I’m fine. She didn’t physically hurt me, but if you had been there today none of this would have happened.”

“What do you mean?” He asked me with a confused look on his face, but once again Cash was the one to answer him.

“Jessica and her little pack of she bitches decided to start their shit with Raven about me being the one there with her today, but Raven here, put them and Jessica right in their places. You should have seen Jessica’s face, it was priceless. Oh, but the best part is when she landed a kick to Jessica’s abdomen, sending her flying straight back into Chase’s arms.”

Dread filled my eyes as I waited to hear Chance’s response to what Cash had just told him, thinking that he was going to be upset with me too for breaking the rules of fighting on school grounds, but instead, the look of disappointment filled his eyes, but it wasn’t towards me, but towards himself for not being there.

“You’re right. If I was there, it wouldn’t have happened, and it should never have happened under Cash’s watch either.” Chance said as he turned to look at Cash, upset with his brother for not stopping it, but Cash did before it got out of control.

As the two stared at each other like they were having a silent feud between themselves, I grabbed onto Chance’s arm as I said to him, “Cash was in the bleachers when it all went down. He stopped it before anything major happened. It’s my fault. I should have just walked away, but her words got the best of me, and I lost my temper. Please don’t be upset with Cash over this.”

Chance’s eyes immediately softened as he stared at me, before he said, “We will deal with

this tomorrow. Right now, I am just happy to see you and know that you are okay. Besides, our grandmother has dinner ready, and she was asking if you were going to be joining us again tonight.”

The thought of having to sit around a dinner table with Chase being there instantly made my stomach knot, but I didn’t want to leave now, after just seeing Chance for the first time today. As if Chance could sense what I was thinking, he said to me, “Don’t worry, Chase is with Jessica. He had already called and said he wouldn’t be home for dinner.” Before he wrapped his arm around my shoulder, guiding me towards the house, as he yelled over his shoulder to Cash, “Make sure the horses are put in their stalls and fed before you come in.” As if he was punishing him for what he had done.

I looked back at Cash, feeling sorry that I had once again caused friction between the brothers, but Cash didn’t seem phased, especially when he gave me a wink, making me turn quickly back around, as my heart once again skipped a beat for him.
