Chapter 35-1
Raven’s POV
Honestly, I don’t know if it was because I was completely and utterly exhausted or if it was the time that I had spent with Cash feeling careless and free, but somehow, I slept like a baby, waking up before my alarm even went off. The weight of the world that I had been feeling weighing heavily on my chest since the morning after the accident wasn’t present this morning, giving me hope that someday I would feel normal again.
I wanted to believe that I was making progress, coping with my grief like I was supposed to be doing, but in my heart, I knew that it had to do with two certain individuals. With Chance, I felt a bond with him from the moment the two of us were alone on the top of the mountain, gazing at the stars, as we bared our hearts to one another. But then there was Cash, who brought out a different side to me, one that was full of adventure and playfulness, a side that I had feared would be lost forever. Between the two of them, they were like the perfect combination of everything I could have ever dreamed of in a soul mate, but unfortunately, I could only have one of them.
It was so wrong of me to think about the one as I was dating the other one, but I was finding it hard to dismiss the connection that I was feeling towards Cash now too. I felt like I was going to burn in hell for having feelings for both brothers, but I couldn’t stop thinking about them both, and the different way that each one of them made me feel.
Hearing a vehicle driving up the lane, I grabbed my backpack and headed out of my room, curious to see which brother was here to pick me up today. My grandmother, who was normally sitting in her recliner chair, wasn’t present this morning, making me wonder if she was trying to avoid the Ryder brothers after her awkward conversation about going to their house for dinner with Cash. Unfortunately, I didn’t have the chance to speak to her about it, as I got home once again late last night.
As I headed out the front door, and the vehicle came into view, I felt a bit disappointed to see that it was Mazie who had come to get me this morning, not because I didn’t want to see her, but because I was hoping to see one of the brothers instead.
“Don’t look so disappointed.” Mazie said to me as I jumped into her passenger seat, making me realize that she must have seen my smile drop from my face, when I saw that it wasn’t one of them.
Placing a smile on my face, which wasn’t hard to do with Mazie, I told her, “I’m not disappointed to see you. I was just looking forward to seeing Chance this morning.”
Mazie gave me a side glance, as she began to drive down my grandmother’s lane, while she

said to me, “I hate to disappoint you once again, but Chance won’t be at school today and neither will Cash.”
My heart instantly sank into my chest, as worry filled me that something had happened after I had seen them last night, especially since we still had that thing running around Beaumont. The emotion of dread then took over, as I thought that thing might have tracked my scent last night to their house. The only word that I got out to her was, “Why?” As I continued to think the worst.
“Something came up on the ranch, and their father needed their help. It happens quite often, so don’t worry about it. The school understands that running a ranch comes with a lot of responsibilities, and they just let them make up the assignments that they miss.”
Relief filled me, as I realized why they weren’t going to be at school. I couldn’t even imagine the amount of work it took to run the ranch, and by the looks of things, Evan and his sons were doing it all on their own. It was noble of the school to see that the guys were having to help their father with the family business and not docking them for their tardiness.
