Chapter 40-2

Laying my head against his chest as he held on tightly to me, I said with a shaky voice, “You saw it too, right? I’m not crazy.”

“No, you’re not crazy. We saw it too, but it was not a monster, just a rogue wolf.” Cash explained to me, making me feel a bit better, that I wasn’t losing my mind, and that thing was obviously a normal creature that inhabited the mountains surrounding this town.

It now had me wondering if it was also what my mother had seen, mistaking it like I had for a monster. My mind for a moment felt like it was at ease, knowing that my family wasn’t being hunted down by some supernatural creature that wanted us dead or ran out of this town, but then my mind began to wonder, like it always does. If these rogue wolves attacked my mother all those years ago, and this one has attacked me twice now, what is not to say that it wouldn’t come for me again.

“I think you have been through enough today. Let’s get you out of here.” Chase says, as he guides me to the passenger door, opening it for me to get inside.

But before I got in, I turned to look at Mazie, asking her, “Are you okay?” As I realized no one had made sure she was.

Mazie shook her head as she looked towards the forest where the wolves had disappeared, as she said to me, “Yeah, I am fine, but I think I am going to stay behind and let the school know we have rogue wolves loose on the property.”

“Please be careful.” I told her as Cash helped me into the truck, before shutting the door and

moving to the driver’s seat.

As he started the truck, I watched Mazie hurrying back into the school but realized that

Chance wasn’t with us. “Wait, what about Chance? Are we not waiting for him?”

“Chance is looking for Chase. He told me to take you to our house, and he would catch up

with us later there.”

My head lowered, knowing what was in store for Chase when Chance got his hands on him, but in all honesty, he did deserve what he had coming, but I still didn’t want to cause drama between the brothers. “I am sorry that I once again caused problems with your family.”

Cash reached over at that moment, taking my hand into his, and I didn’t pull away from him like I probably should have, but instead I allowed him to hold my hand in his. “Raven, you need to know there were problems between us far before you came. You are not the problem, Jessica is, and Chase unfortunately can’t see it, and has gone down a dark path that I am afraid we won’t be able to save him from. What he did to you is unacceptable, and he must

be held accountable for his actions. I just pray that you don’t hold his actions against Chance or me, because we aren’t like him.”

My head popped up to look at him, as I shook my head, before I said to him, “I would never. I know that the two of you are nothing like him, and I can see that Jessica is so wrong for him, but I know from past experiences with friends that the more you are against their relationships, the more they stay in them to despite you. Maybe he stays with her because he knows it gets under yours and Chance’s skin.”

“That may be the case, but he wasn’t raised to mistreat someone like he has with you, and he needs to be put in his place, before he does something he will regret. That’s if he doesn’t already regret it now.”

His words made me think back to when Chase and I were in the janitor’s closet together, and how, at first, he was rough with me, demanding I tell him what I had seen, but then it was like a switch had been flipped when tears began to pool in my eyes. His touch then became softer, and his rough tone with me became more desirable, as if he was trying to seduce me, making me wonder if he had regretted the approach he had taken with me at first.

Regardless of whether he regretted it or not, he was still in the wrong, especially when he tried to kiss me. Thank God I had my senses, and I wasn’t completely lost in the moment between us, because, in all honesty, things could have gone differently in that closet if he had started out with me the way he had ended it, making me feel even less of myself.

This attraction that I felt towards all three of the brothers couldn’t be normal, and I had to chalk it up to them being triplets, but I needed to realize that I couldn’t let myself fall for all three of them in different ways. It was bad enough that I was dating Chance, and here I was holding Cash’s hand, not wanting to pull away from him, even though I knew it was wrong.

With Chase, it was a love-hate relationship, one that was full of hate, but for some reason I felt myself drawn to him when he was close to me. Maybe it’s the fact that I see him as a challenge, one that I should never want to conquer, but one that is as damaged as myself.

Nevertheless, I was in over my head with them, and I needed to figure out my feelings towards them before I ended up hurting one of them, or worse yet, causing more problems between them than what Jessica already had. But the problem was, how was I supposed to figure this out, without hurting one of them?
