Chapter 41-1
Chance’s POV
I had just made it to the edge of our pack’s cemetery, following Chase and the rogue Alpha’s trail, when Cash had linked me that they had made it safely back to the ranch, alleviating one of my worries. But as I made my way to the gates of the cemetery, I had to wonder why their trail led here, as this was sacred ground to our people, and wasn’t to be entered in our wolf
form.
Sniffing around the gates, it was clear that they had both entered, forcing me to shift back into my human form, not wanting to break the laws of our pack, but now that I was in my human form, I was more vulnerable, which I feared is what the rogue Alpha wanted. Thankfully, I could still smell Chase’s scent in my human form, leading me deep within the cemetery, towards where our great ancestors were buried, as I remained on high alert,
scanning my surroundings.
As I maneuvered around the headstones, trying to be respectful and honor our people that had crossed over, I noticed movement to my right, making me change my course. In the far distance, I could make out the silhouette of a man walking towards me, and it didn’t take long for me to realize that it was Chase.
Picking up my pace, I rushed towards him, wanting to make sure that he was okay, but as I reached him, I noticed the foul look on his face, before he said to me, “What, you’re following me now?” As he tried to walk past me, but I reached out grabbing his arm to stop him.
“Are you kidding me? You just went after a rogue Alpha on your own. Of course, I would follow you to have your back.”
Pulling his arm from my grasp, he leans into me and says, “Why the hell would you all of a sudden have my back?”
“Because we are brothers, or have you forgotten that?”
“Trust me, I couldn’t forget if I wanted to.” He says to me now through gritted teeth, but he was already walking on thin ice with me about what he had done to Raven, and I wasn’t going to let him off so easily.
“I’ve had about enough of your shit for today. It was reckless for you to go after the rogue Alpha on your own.”
Chase let out a huff, before he said, “Well, if I wouldn’t have, the rogue Alpha would have had your precious mate for breakfast, while Cash stood there watching it all unfold before his eyes, too afraid to show his true identity to her, in fear that she wouldn’t accept him for what

we truly are. Maybe the two of you need to come clean with her, and stop keeping secrets from her, because she may not even want to be a part of our world, like her mother didn’t.”
“Raven’s not her mother, and I can feel the bond between us thriving. Don’t tell me after the little stunt that you pulled today with her, that you don’t feel it too.”
Chase lets out a chuckle, before he says, “Thriving? She thinks you are human. Once she finds out that you’re not, we shall see how thriving the bond is between you. As for me, I’m not going to invest my time or effort in a mere human, knowing that her mother had already rejected our world all those years ago. You know what they say, like mother, like daughter.”
I couldn’t help but to leave my own chuckle slip from my lips, as what he said was so true in his own case. Jessica’s mother had tried for years to get with our father after our mother had passed, but thankfully our father was smart enough to see her, for what she was. With her mother failing to seal the deal, it was now Jessica trying to swingle her way into our Alpha family, and Chase was the only one of us foolish enough to fall for it.
