“What’s so funny?” He asks me, as he moves to get in my face, and I push him back, claiming my dominance over him, as I say to him, “You’re one to talk, but of course you would know best out of all of us, what mother like daughter means.”

“I’m not even going to go there with you right now, because it’s not worth my time or effort. You and Cash clearly can’t see the bigger picture like I can, but when Raven flees from here like her mother did, then I will be the one saying I told you so, and the only one left with a

suitable mate.”

A growl now rumbled from my chest, as he clearly couldn’t see he was in the wrong, and the damage he was causing for all of us. Needing him to understand the consequences that were to come from his actions, I said to him, “And if she doesn’t leave and accepts us, then where does that leave you standing? Because, as I see it, you have already ruined the bond between you and her with the little stunt you pulled at school today. Do you know that you left a handprint on her neck? What the hell were you thinking?”

“What I was thinking was that one of us had to question her further about what she had seen. Since the two of you would never be able to push her to face her darkest fears, I took it upon myself to do it.”

“Oh, yeah, and how did that work out for you?” I asked him with sarcasm in my tone, knowing that Mazie had said that Raven had put him in his place.

“None of that matters now, because she now knows that the monster that haunts her

dreams is real. I wouldn’t put it past her to pack her bags and leave town tonight, because she is too scared to stay here and face reality.”

I let out another chuckle, but this time not because what he said was funny, but because he didn’t take the time to get to know Raven, and everything that she has survived thus far. Raven was a fighter, and from what I had seen from her today, she wasn’t going to allow him, or Jessica, to get the best of her. She might fear our kind right now, but that’s because she is unaware of our existence, but something tells me that once we sit down with her and explain our world to her, she will accept us, especially with the bonds she is forming with Cash and I, and not to forget to mention, Mazie too.

“If you only truly knew her, you would know that what happened today would not affect her the way you think it would. She is a fighter, and she will want to know more about the creature, now that she knows it is real.”

“So, are you finally going to come clean with her? This ought to be good. Make sure I have front row seats for that so I can tell you I told you so, when she runs back to California,

leaving you without a Luna.”

I wanted to tell him he was full of shit and to go to hell, but I knew there was a chance that this might happen. Raven was very upfront and clear with me that she had plans on fulfilling her dreams of attending her parents’ college back in California, and I had promised myself that I wouldn’t interfere with those plans of hers. So, the likelihood of this happening was high, but I had to have faith that our mate bond would keep her here.

But it was still too soon to tell her, as I wanted to secure the bond between the two of us tighter first. Unfortunately, with everything that had been going on around here, especially with the rogue Alpha, it had put a damper in my plans, and I needed to eliminate the threat to be able to spend more time with her.

“I’ll tell her, but not until we take care of the problem, we have first on our hands. Which leads me to ask you, where did you lose its scent?”

Chase looked around the cemetery as he raised his arms, while he sarcastically said to me, Where do you think? The damn thing disappeared in here like a ghost.”

“None of this makes any sense to me. Cash told me that it ran as soon as it saw you, and then for it to lead you to our sacred grounds makes even less sense to me. Its behavior isn’t of a typical rogue Alpha.”

“Maybe it’s not a rogue.” Chase says, as he shrugs his shoulders nonchalantly like it could be a possibility, but it didn’t make any sense to me why it would be on our pack lands.

“If it’s not a rogue Alpha, then why is it here?”

“I think the most important question you should be asking is why it’s after Raven.”
