Beta Alex looked away as he covered the lower half of his face with his hand, while our father stepped forward, kneeling before her body, as he too covered his nose and mouth with his hand, while he assessed the body.

Getting to his feet, he says to Beta Alex, “Inform her family, that we have unfortunately found

her.”

“Yes, Alpha.” Beta Alex said to him, before he scurried off, happy to relieve himself from the sight, as I knew it must be hard for him to see, having a daughter the same age.

Our father remained standing there before Josie’s body, as he waited for Beta Alex to disappear from his sight, before he turned his attention to Cash and I. I knew by the look on his face, he was questioning how we had found her, and I knew it was time to give him

answers.

“Need I ask why the two of you were this deep in the cemetery?”

Cash lowered his head before he admitted to our father, “That would have been me, father.”

Our father’s attention turned solely to Cash, as he now asks, “And why were you in the cemetery, to begin with?”

Cash at that moment peered up looking at me, as if to ask me for permission to speak, but

our father was quick to notice his actions, making him turn to look at me, before he said, “I’m guessing you are the one that I need to be asking.”

Looking down once again at Josie’s body, I now felt guilty for her death, knowing that if I had just gone to our father in the first place, the chances were she would still be alive. I had failed her as the Alpha to be, and I needed to come clean to our father, bearing whatever punishment he deemed fit.

Taking a deep breath, I admit to our father, “There was a rogue Alpha attack at the school today.”

My father’s eyes widened in shock, before they narrowed, as he said to me, “Why is it that I am just hearing about this now?”

“Honestly, I thought that we had it under control, but I now see that we didn’t, and I take full responsibility for Josie’s death.”

Our father lets out a growl and I could see his frustration with me already forming, but then he says to me, “Josie disappeared two nights ago. Don’t blame yourself for her death.

There’s nothing you could have done to stop this.” As if he was trying to make me feel better, but I hadn’t told him yet that I knew about the rogue Alpha, the night that Josie went missing.

“Actually…” I began to say, wanting to fully confess to him, but Cash stopped me before I could, by saying, “Chase thankfully was able to chase the rogue Alpha away before it could

hurt Raven.”

“Raven?” My father asked with a confused look on his face, before he asked, “Are you sure this rogue Alpha was solely after her? She is a mere human. Why would he have targeted

her?”

“We don’t know. That’s why I decided to come to the cemetery to find out. This is where Chase had lost the rogue Alpha in his pursuit of him.” Cash now explains to our father, as I remain silent, wondering why he had stopped me from telling our father the truth.

“And that’s when you found Josie?”

Cash nodded his head, before he said to him, “But that’s not all we found. I think there is

something else that you must see.”

Cash then led us through the cemetery, only stopping when he came to a grave that had recently been dug up. My eyes instantly moved to the headstone to see that it was our father’s twin brother’s grave, before I looked down to see an empty casket lying within the

open grave.

Our father let out a growl, as he moved to the edge of his brother’s open grave, while I asked, “Who would do this?”

Our father stood there, with the look of despair on his face, not only from seeing his twin brother’s grave disturbed, but his remains missing. I watched him take a deep breath, composing himself, before he finally spoke by asking, “What exactly did this rogue Alpha look like that you saw?”

Unfortunately, I couldn’t answer his question, as I, myself, hadn’t actually seen it. Cash and Chase though had, leaving Cash to be the one to say, “It was clearly a full-grown Alpha wolf, with fur as black as night, and eyes that glowed red when the sun reflected off them.” Giving our father the same description that Raven had given Mazie about the creature that attacked

her.

“And his scent?” Our father now asks, leaving me to be the one to answer this question.

“Faint. Barely recognizable.” I told our father, as I had the toughest of a time picking up on it, even with the excellent tracking skills I was known for.

Our father’s face went pale, and I had only seen this look on his face once before, and that

was when our mother passed, telling me something was gravely wrong. “I need you boys to head home, and make sure that your grandmother remains safe until I get there.”

“But father, we can help you track him and make him pay for what he has done.” I argued with him, not wanting to sit this one out, because this rogue Alpha was clearly targeting Raven, and I owed it to Josie to redeem her wrongful death.

“No!” Our father said a bit too sternly, before he took a deep breath, and then said in a more calming tone, “I need you boys to stay on the ranch, and to watch over your grandmother.”

“We will do as you ask, father.” Cash tells him, obviously noticing our father’s unusual behavior, as he grabs ahold of my arm, pulling me away from the grave, as I stare back at our father, seeing the pain now in his eyes.

I understood that it was his twin brother’s grave, and I knew how I would feel if someone had desecrated one of my own brother’s graves, but something was telling me that this was more than just that, and that our father was keeping secrets from us.
