Chapter 47-1

Raven’s POV

+25 Points

“Are you sure you’re okay?” Mazie asked me for the hundredth time this morning, as we arrived at school, and just like the last ninety-nine times she asked, I put a smile on my face and told her everything was fine, even though it wasn’t true.

As the two of us walked into school, I was shocked to see Chance leaning against my locker, talking to a couple of guys. Chance had been absent from school since Josie’s body was found, helping his father with keeping watch over the ranch and the horses, but he had kept in touch with me at night, as he never missed a night calling me to check on Mazie and me, that was until last night.

Turning his head to look at me with the look of worry plaguing his eyes, I now knew why he was here even before he opened his mouth and said, “Hey. I tried to call you last night, but

you never answered. Is everything okay?”

My stomach instantly turned into a knot, as I was already sickened that I was keeping secrets from Mazie, and here I was about to lie to my boyfriend. I knew that I couldn’t tell him that I had ventured into the cemetery alone last night, and I especially couldn’t tell him about

the wolf that I had seen, as it would only cause problems between us.

Chance had made me promise him that I would remain inside and beside Mazie until the rogue wolf was caught by the authorities, and I had broken that promise to him last night. Not only had I broken that promise to him, but I had also actually interacted with a wolf, and in the process of doing so, I had lost my phone in the cemetery, causing him to be here right

now.

Making sure that I kept my story straight, I told him, “I am sorry to worry you. Mazie had to work at the Diner last night, so I had her drop me off at the library to work on a paper for the online course I am taking, and I must have left my phone there. I didn’t mean to worry you.”

Reaching his hand towards my face, he removes a strand of hair covering my cheek, tucking it behind my ear, as he says to me, “It is fine. We can stop by the library after school tonight to pick it up, before we head out of town.”

“Head out of town?” I asked him with a confused look now on my face, as I wondered what he was talking about.

“It’s Friday, Raven. Did you forget about our date?” He asked me, and my eyes widened as I had lost track of the week, and with everything going on, I had forgotten that he had asked

me out.

“We don’t have to go if you don’t want to.” He then says as the look of disappointment forms on his face, obviously seeing that I had forgotten about the date, but I was quick to say back to him, “No, I want to go. I think it would be nice to get out of town and spend some time alone together, since we really haven’t had the chance lately to do that.”

A smile formed instantly on his face, with me mentioning spending time alone together, before he leaned down and placed a soft kiss on my lips, making me realize how much I missed being with him this week.

“I have to run, but I will be here to pick you up after school.” He now says to me, placing one last kiss on my forehead, before he took off towards the lobby of the school, making me

wonder if he had just shown up to school this morning to talk to me.

Either way, I was happy to have seen him, and even more excited about our date tonight, as it would be nice to get out of this town and away from everything that was happening.

As I turned my attention to the lock on my locker, Mazie appeared by my side, leaning against

the locker next to mine, as she asked, “What did Chance want?”
