Chapter 49-2

“Sorry to disappoint you, but you are stuck with me at least until the end of our senior year, wolves or no wolves.” I told him now playfully, earning me a smirk from Chance, as he pulled my hand up to his lips, placing a kiss on the back of it, while he says to me, “Lucky for me.”

A blush creeped onto my face, as I turned my head away from him, realizing that I was the lucky one to have him in my life. In all honesty, I don’t know what I truly expected coming to

Beaumont, but what I knew was, this wasn’t it.

I guess I thought that I would spend my time here alone, keeping under the radar, counting the days until I could leave. Instead, here I was forming bonds and developing friendships I never would have foreseen coming, as I truly thought that I was broken and unworthy of them, because secretly I was suffering from survivors’ guilt.

But being here in Beaumont, I was slowly realizing that I was worthy with the help of those that had accepted me. If I was being honest with myself, I was beginning to like it here, minus the whole rogue wolf thing.

With the city now in our view, Chance turns off onto a side road, leading us away from the city, as he says to me, “I need to make a stop before we head into the city. It won’t take long, I promise you.”

I stared out my window, wondering where we were heading, as it looked as if we were heading back into complete nothingness, surrounded by nothing but vast forests. As Chance began to slow the truck down, I turned my attention ahead of me, to see a group of men, dressed in all black, standing outside a heavily guarded gate.

Chance pulled the truck off the road, parking us directly in front of the men who stood there staring at us through the windshield with their arms now crossed, making me feel like I was in some kind of gangster movie.

“Wait here. It will only take me a minute.” Chance told me nonchalantly, before he got out of the truck, but he didn’t need to warn me to stay inside.

There was no way in hell I was going to step foot outside this vehicle, as I felt extremely uncomfortable staring out the windshield at the men staring back at me, while I wondered what the hell we were doing here. Chance opened the back door of the truck, drawing my attention away from the men staring at me, to see Chance retrieving what looked like a black duffle bag.

Shutting the door, I watched Chance walk around the front of the truck, as I sat up in my seat to get a better look at what he was doing, before I saw him hand the bag to a man that had

stepped forward from the rest of the men. The man unzipped the bag and peeked inside of it while Chance spoke to him, but the windows were up, and the air conditioner was on, not allowing me to hear the conversation between the two of them.

The man then nodded his head to Chance, handing the bag to another man, before he slowly reached into his suit coat, pulling out a white envelope, handing it to Chance. The two of them then shook hands before Chance turned and made his way back to the truck, while my heart sank in my chest, as I realized what I had just witnessed.

When Chance got into the truck, he reached over towards me, opening the glove box, placing the envelope inside of it, while he said to me, “Now that that is done, are you ready for our

date?”

1 sat there in shock, not answering him, as I stared blankly at the glove box, while he started the truck up and turned it back around, heading down the road back towards the way we had come, while I tried to process what I had just witnessed. I would never have suspected that Chance was dealing drugs, but I had seen it with my own two eyes, and I couldn’t believe that he did it right in front of me like it was no big deal.

Did he really think that I would be okay with this? Did he even think about what the repercussions could have been if he had been caught, not only for him, but for me too, being

there with him?

Everything that I had worked so hard for could have been taken away in the blink of an eye, making me realize that whether I liked him or not, I couldn’t allow myself to be associated

with him.

As he pulls the truck to a stop at the end of the road to turn back onto the highway, I say to him, “I’m actually not feeling so well. Maybe we should just head back home.”

“What?” He asks as he turns to look at me, before he reaches over, placing the back of his hand on my forehead, as if to check to see if I was running a temperature.

Leaning away from his touch, he stared at me with the look of hurt on his face, as I had made it obvious to him that I didn’t want him to touch me.

“Raven, what is going on?” He asks me, as he puts the truck in park, and moves to turn to completely face me.

My hands at that moment began to shake, not out of fear, but from how angry I was with him, involving me in a situation like that.

“You’re shaking.” He then says to me, as he reaches over to take my hands into his, but I quickly pull them away from him, as I say to him, “Don’t touch me.”

Slowly, Chance retreated his hand, as he leaned back into his seat, before he said to me, “I don’t understand. Did I do something wrong?”

“Just take me home, Chance.” I blandly told him, hoping that he would just do so, because I really didn’t want to have this argument with him this far away from home.

Shaking his head, he turns the truck off, pulling the keys from the ignition, before he turns back to me and says, “No. Not until you tell me what I did to make you reject my touch.”

Could he be so naive to not realize what he had done was beyond wrong?

Knowing that he wasn’t going to budge until I admitted to him why, I finally said to him, “Fine. I will tell you why. Did you really think that I would be okay with you dealing drugs right in front of me?”

Chance’s eyes widened as he stared at me with a blank look on his face, before he burst out into complete laughter, making me wonder what he thought was so damn funny about the situation.
