Chapter 50-1

Raven’s POV

“Chance, this isn’t funny. Do you even understand that you just committed a felony, and that you just made me an accessory to it? Why would you do this to me? I could lose everything I worked so hard for.”

Instead of Chance answering me, he continued to laugh at me even harder, like I was saying something hilarious to him, which was pissing me off to the point that I unbuckled my seat belt and got out of the truck. Pulling my phone from my back pocket, I began to walk away, as I opened my app to get an uber back home, not wanting to be in the same truck with him a moment longer, since he was seeing so much humor in what he had just done.

I couldn’t believe that I was foolish for falling for someone like him, and that I had missed the signs that he was involved with something so illegal like this. My mother would be rolling in her grave knowing that I had just assisted in the distribution of an illegal substance, since

most of her career was focused on cleaning our streets up.

“Raven, stop!” Chance called out to me, as he got out of the truck, finally not laughing, but I didn’t stop walking away from him, as I began to start to order an uber, but had to turn to see the road sign to know where the hell I was to place the order from.

But as I turned to look at the road sign, Chance grabbed my phone from my hand, looking at the screen, before turning it off and putting it in his back pocket, while he said to me, “You aren’t getting an uber home. If you want me to take you home, then I will, but I think you should hear me out first, because you might see things differently.”

Crossing my arms over my chest, I said to him, “I’m listening, but I don’t know what you can say to make me change my mind.”

Chance closed his eyes, taking a deep breath, like he was trying to calm himself, before he opened them and said to me, “Raven, that wasn’t a drug deal.”

“It sure the hell looked like one to me.”

Chance raised his hand to his face, massaging the flesh between his eyebrows with the tips of his fingers, before he said, “I guess it could have looked like one, but I assure you that wasn’t what was in the bag.”

Tilting my head to the side, curious about what kind of story he could possibly come up with to cover up what he had just done, I said to him, “Then enlighten me on what was in the bag, if it wasn’t drugs.”

Chance let out a chuckle as he looked away from me, and I was sure that he was trying to avoid my question, but then he turned back to look at me with a bashful look on his face, before he said almost beneath his breath, “Stud seamen.’

“What?” I asked him, thinking that I had heard him wrong, but instead of answering me, he quickly moved to me, pulling me off the side of the road, as a truck pulling a horse trailer came driving towards us, making me realize that I had heard him right.

The truck came to a stop where we were standing, as the passenger’s side window lowered and a man called out to Chance, “Are you having truck problems?”

“No, sir, but thanks for stopping. My girl here was just feeling a bit under the weather and needed some fresh air.”

“You’re more than welcome to take her back to the ranch to rest a bit before your drive home. “The man now said as he looked at me with a kind smile on his face, but I quickly said to him, “Thank you for the offer, but I am feeling much better now.”

“I am glad to hear that.” He told me, before he turned his attention back to Chance and said to him, “Tell your father I said hello, and that I will be calling him with my next month’s order soon. I have a mare being imported from Italy that I plan on breeding next.”
