Chapter 50-2
“Will do sir. Thank you so much for your business.” Chance tells him, making my stomach sink, knowing that I had messed up big time, accusing him of something so horrible.
“Take care of your pretty lady.” The man then said, tilting the tip of his cowboy hat to us, before his window began to roll up, and the truck slowly pulled away, leaving us standing there alone together, as I didn’t even know where to start to apologize to Chance.
But Chance didn’t even give me an opportunity to apologize to him, as he said to me, “Please just get back in the truck, and I will take you home like you asked.” Before he walked away from me, getting into the truck himself.
I stood there staring at Chance through the windshield, ashamed of myself for thinking so poorly of him, wondering how I could have accused him of such a heinous crime. Here he was just making a delivery for his family’s business, helping his father provide for the family, and I bashed him for it, when he deserved praise for helping his father as much as he does.
Putting my head down, I walked back to the truck, knowing that I owed him an apology, even though I knew that I had royally messed things up between us. I just prayed that he could find it in his heart to forgive me, because I didn’t want things to end like this between us.
Opening the passenger-side door, I stood outside the truck staring into it, looking directly at him, knowing that I at least owed him direct eye contact when I made my apology to him, so that he knew that it was coming from the bottom of my heart. But first and foremost, I needed to admit my wrongs to him, because I truly was ashamed of myself.
“I was in the wrong for accusing you, and I should have asked before I jumped to conclusions. I know by saying I am sorry, it will probably not change things right now
between us, but I am truly sorry, and I mean it. I don’t blame you if you never want to speak to me again, after tonight.”
Chance stared at me for a few seconds, before he looked away from me, as he said, “Get in
the truck, Raven.”
Not wanting to further upset him or cause any more problems than I already had tonight, I got into the truck, and buckled my seatbelt, so that he could take me home. With my head hanging low, I stared at my hands in my lap, as tears began to form in my eyes, from the thought of now losing him, but I knew it was nobody’s fault but my own.
Chance put the key in the ignition, starting the truck, as he said to me, “You’re right. It doesn’t change things between us.” As he shifted the truck into drive, pulling up to the stop sign, turning on his turn signal to head home.

My head remained hanging low, as a single tear fell from the corner of my eye, while my barely mended heart felt like it was breaking into a million little pieces all over again. Losing my parents about killed me, and now the loss I was feeling from Chance was somehow similar, even though we had been together for such a short period of time. Maybe it was because he was the first person I had attached myself to in their absence, but whatever it was, it was breaking me.
