Chapter 53-2

Turning, I grabbed the drinks that I ordered, throwing some cash on the bar for the bartender, before I turned back with the drinks in my hand, just wanting now to get back to Raven and wash the stink of remembrance of the she wolf’s touch off me. But as I turn with the drinks

in my hands, my eyes land on Raven dancing with another male on the dance floor.

A foreign feeling I could only explain as jealousy washed over me, as rage began to take over, seeing another male’s hands on my mate, and watching her enjoy it as she leaned back into him. I watched as he leaned down, whispering sweet nothings into those delicate ears of hers, infuriating me even more, as those were only mine and my brothers to do so with.

I began to see red before I realized that Raven had stiffened in his grasp, as she tried to free herself from the hold he had over her. I could barely hear her voice, but I could feel her panic through our mate bond, as she continued to try to push him away.

The two glasses I held in my hands shattered into a million little pieces, falling to the floor by my feet, as my hands balled into fists, while I pushed my way through the crowd, wanting to rip his hands off, for touching my mate.

“I said, let me go!” I heard now clearly from Raven, as I watched her raise her knee, bringing

the heel of her heels right down on top of the man’s foot.

“You bitch!” The man cried out, as he released her from his grasp, raising his hand towards her, but he didn’t get the chance to follow through, as I intercepted his hand in mid-swing

towards her.

A low Alpha’s growl rumbled loudly from my chest, making all the bystanders turn to look in our direction, before I punched the male straight in the face, shattering his nose, as blood instantly began to gush from it. As my grip around his arm tightened, I could hear the bones crushing beneath my hand, while his screams of pain filled the surrounding air.

“She’s mine.” I said through gritted teeth, as the man fell to his knees in complete agony, but I wasn’t done with him just yet.

Just as I was ready to make the final blow to him, Raven clung onto my arm, making me drop my fist, as she said to me, “He’s not worth it. Let’s just go, please.”

Between her voice and her touch, I slowly came back to my senses and realized that the music had stopped, and that everyone was now looking in our direction. Looking back down at the male I was still holding onto, I said to him, “You’re lucky.” As I released his arm and took a step back from him, while I wrapped my arm around Raven, pulling her tightly into my side, before we turned away and walked out of the nightclub.

It wasn’t until I helped her into my truck did I see the tears in her eyes, as she began to mumble, “I honestly thought it was you behind me.” Making me realize what really had transpired, and that she was blaming herself for it.

Taking her hands into mine, I said to her, “It’s not your fault, Love. I shouldn’t have left you alone in there. Actually, I should never have brought you here. I really messed this whole date

night up.”

Her head tilted up, and she looked at me through her tear-stained eyes, as she said to me,” Don’t say that. It’s not your fault. As for bringing me here, it was thoughtful, and I was enjoying it until…” She broke off, not able to finish her sentence, as it was clear she was still

shaken.

Pulling her into an embrace, I held her in my arms, as I whispered into her ear, “I promise to make it up to you.”

The drive back to Beaumont was done in silence, as Raven fell asleep, and I prayed to the Moon Goddess that I hadn’t ruined things tonight between us. Relationships had never been my strong suit, especially wooing a girl over, but things had always come easy for Cash and that was why I took his advice.

In a way, maybe it would have been better if I had backed off and let Cash be the one to charm her into our world, as it was obvious that I was failing horribly at it, but the truth was, I didn’t think that I would have been able to. I honestly have no clue how Cash was dealing with not being able to freely show her fully the love he has for her, as it was driving me mad just having to wait to claim her as my mate. Regardless, Raven was the one that ultimately made the choice for us, and I couldn’t hand the reins over to Cash now even if I thought it was the right thing to do.

As I pulled onto Raven’s grandmother’s lane, I tried my hardest to avoid the bumps to awaken her, but it was virtually impossible to avoid them all, making me realize that tomorrow Cash and I needed to make time to work on it. Raven stirred awake, just as I parked the truck, as

she asked me half awake, “Are we home?”

Unfortunately, we were, and this was the part of the day that killed me, leaving her here every night unprotected from the Alpha rogue that we still haven’t caught. Thankfully, there hadn’t been any incidents since finding Josie’s body, and I was hopeful that the Alpha rogue had left our territory, but my father didn’t share that same belief as he continued searching nonstop.

Getting out of the truck, I quickly moved to Raven’s door, as she began to open it, wanting to help her in the house. Seeing that she didn’t have her heels on, I reached into the truck, picking her up into my arms, as she let out a yawn, before she said, “I can walk.”

“I know you can walk, but let’s just pretend that you can’t so that I can carry you to your front

door.” I told her, earning a half chuckle from her, before she says still half asleep to me, “My knight in shining armor.” As she leans her head against my chest, letting out another yawn, while I turn to walk towards her house with her in my arms, catching a whiff of a familiar

scent in the surrounding air.
